Controls/Mechatronics Engineer ENA Product Development
The product development team is a diverse group of engineers and designers working to drive the use of aluminum extrusions in North America through automation, new product development, product and system design, design for manufacturability, metallurgy, customer education and new program launch. As a result of the rapidly growing demand for aluminum in today s market, Ambe is seeking to provide a greater focus on automation in their manufacturing processes. In this role you will support the team by providing insight on intelligent systems and industrial controls, as well as helping in the development of controls processes and procedures for our plant teams.
This position will provide you with the opportunity to use your engineering skills to drive new automation projects, expand your knowledge of aluminum design and industrial manufacturing processes, and work with colleagues in a wide variety of disciplines, from manufacturing engineers to market analysts. This person will work closely with our plants manufacturing teams as well as working closely with integrators, robotic vendors, and other industrial suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Put the safety of yourself and the team around you first
- Oversee the work of suppliers and integrators in accordance with project requirements
- Design Automation systems for industrial tasks
- Review advanced electronic control systems
- Developing and implementing process techniques and procedures into manufacturing environments.
- Work with Product Development teams on process concepts, equipment requirements, and new technologies
- Upgrade existing equipment with control functions
- Analyzing manufacturing process flows continually for the enhancements of quality, cost reduction, and throughput.
- Conduct studies to determine the feasibility, costs, or performance benefits of new equipment
- Consult with suppliers in determining product specifications, arranging equipment, parts, or materials, and evaluating products according to quality standards and specifications.
- Working closely with manufacturing department to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for employees.
- Provide engineering support to plants to trouble shoot and resolve technical problems.
- Develop best practices and lessons learned documents for each project
- Support company policies and procedures, goals, and objectives.
- Always exhibit a professional and positive approach.
- Travel to suppliers, customers and plants as needed to support development of new controls, and implementation of new Automation equipment
- Continue professional development through training, conferences, and other opportunities
- Actively participate in customers technical reviews and development projects.
Work Experience
Controls/Mechatronics experience with robotics background (> 5 years).
Industry Experience
Min of 5 years experience as Controls/Mechatronics engineer preferably in a production environment.
Education
B.S. in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent work experience.
Functional Knowledge
Familiarity with metals (aluminium preferred) and manufacturing processes. Knowledge of integration tools, PLC s, robotics, industrial communication, and programming. Machine vision focusing on vision measurement strongly desirable.
Language
Fluency in English is mandatory, bi-lingual is a plus.
Project Management
Proven ability to effectively drive projects through a manufacturing organization with limited direction.
Location
Remote when not traveling.
Other
A driven, creative, self-motivated, and positive personality is critical. Experience working with multi-functional teams across disciplines. Up to 75% travel required.
