This position will be responsible for improving the effectiveness and reliability of the workforce by developing and implementing process improvement projects in operations and developing standard processing procedures in the plant. This position will require the design, implementation and startup of these control systems, which involves the application of advanced computer/PLC/HMI programming, electrical controls knowledge and process engineering skills. This role includes the use of structured problem solving and statistical process improvement methodologies. Contributes to and leads small project teams to ensure the successful completion of team objectives. Requires close collaboration with operations staff during the design process to troubleshoot and resolve problems during construction or installation.
Responsibilities:
- Utilizes PLC/HMI skills and knowledge to resolve problems, contribute to development of new products/processes and maintenance/improvement and monitoring of existing equipment/processes.
- Initiates and completes the actual PLC programming and HMI screen programming for production and innovation projects.
- Identifies areas and equipment that need process control optimization or implementation.
- Drives process control innovation.
- Optimizes processes to attain lower manufacturing costs, increased productivity and reduced cycle times.
- Contributes to project teams to ensure the successful completion of team objectives.
- Conducts safety audits and observations to ensure safe practices are not sacrificed by procedural changes or process modifications.
- Implement automated solutions to problems areas in existing operational procedures/processes by direct interaction with operational workforce.
- Drive continuous improvement through enhancements to existing control software and hardware systems
Requirements
- BS in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering
- 3 years experience in controls engineering (Ideally PLCs and HMI programming) Rockwell systems a plus.
- Concurrently leads multiple significant project design and execution
- Knowledge of chemical batch manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of ISA S88 standard for batch control
- Lean six sigma experience or belt certification
