Job Description

FULL/PART-TIME SCHOOL-AGE TEACHER
REPORTS TO: CURRICULUM DIRECTOR, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OR DIRECTOR

Pay Range:
Up to $16 per hour **NEGOTIABLE dependent on experience, credentials, etc

Hours:
Before and Afterschool. If interested: you can also become a Driver for the school. Drivers must be 23 years of age with a clean driving record. Drivers see a slight increase in pay!

Minimum Qualifications:
8 hours pre-service
Must be at least 18 years old and be a high school graduate or the equivalent and meet all basic requirements of Texas Child Care regulatory agencies.
2 years’ previous teaching experience as a preschool or child care teacher in a state-licensedchild care center.
Ability to always relate positively to young children is essential.
Knowledge of the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and creative needs of young children.
Experience working with parents or demonstration of ability to relate to parents and to understand their needs and requests.
Physical constraints required include the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, the ability to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses, to speak and be understood under normal circumstances, to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds, and the use of arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job; including evacuation of the building during emergencies.
After an offer of employment is made, produce a current tuberculin test that complies with minimum standards.
Copy of high school diploma or GED.
Documentation of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S.
Able to respond immediately to any emergency situation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching/Supervision


Be responsible for the education, welfare, health, and safety of the children in the group.
Consistently assesses each child's developmental needs (physical, intellectual, social, cultural, etc.) using the TykerSmart assessment guides and completing no less than twice per year.
Prepares and submits all center records and reports as required, including time records, attendance sheets, accident reports, USDA Food Program meal count sheets, medicine authorization forms, and any other required materials.
Implement a daily schedule reflecting a well-balanced, varied all-day program for children.
Implements our Tykersmart Curriculum by following weekly teacher’s guides and lesson plans and utilizing teacher-made materials, books, games, etc. found in Tykersmart Curriculum binders.
Monthly/weekly themes, letters, numbers, shapes, colors, sight words, and Science concepts are recognizable in the classroom through displays, materials, teacher-made materials, and learning centers in the classroom.
Concentrated efforts on literacy in the classroom including books that are rotated frequently and found in all centers, use of environmental print, and an age-appropriate writing area in all centers.
Contributes to team teaching within the center, through periodic planning sessions and contribution to teacher-made materials with the Director and other staff.
When necessary based on classroom assessments, organizes and plans parent-teacher conferences with the Director.
Assist in the evacuation of the building in an emergency and be able to properly respond immediately to any emergency situation.
Comply with applicable universal precautions and infection control guidelines and procedures.

Conditions for Satisfactory Performance:

Consistently supports and assists lead teacher.
Children are consistently learning and engaged in well-supervised, age-appropriate, and enjoyable activities.
There are written records and samples of children's work to show educational growth and development for each child.
Tykersmart Curriculum is consistently followed along with the teacher’s creativity in expanding on concepts and activities relating to the curriculum.
Required records are turned in completed and on time.
Planned meetings with Director and /or Assistant Director and other staff are regularly attended.
Promotes good hygiene amongst children daily (nose wiping, hand and face washing, etc).

Classroom Management and Organization (partial list)

Maintains a Parent Board to include lesson plans, daily schedule, “What We Did Today” Notes, Little Tyke Monthly Calendar, Field trip information, and other appropriate information for parents.
Requests needed equipment and supplies; prepares materials needed for each day's program in a timely manner.
Maintain a classroom that is safe, neat, clean, attractive, and ready for the children. The attractive classroom includes seasonal themes, mobiles, children's projects, teacher-made materials, labeled mats, and cubbies.
Assists and instructs the children in personal hygiene such as toileting, hand washing, face washing, hair combing, etc.
Serves and eats with the children, encouraging good manners and relaxed conversations, teaching by example, and assisting when necessary.
Provides a restful atmosphere during rest time.
Follows the Little Tyke disciplinary guidelines and handles disciplinary situations individually and monitors other teacher's aide staff regarding disciplinary situations.
Interact with the children and encourage their involvement in group activities.
Teaches children to maintain the equipment and the classroom and helps them to carry out this responsibility.
Encourage the children to be imaginative and constructive when using materials and equipment.
Provide constant supervision of the age group, that is, a child is never left alone.
Accepts responsibility for maintenance and housekeeping duties of the classroom, common use areas, and playground.
Observes all rules and regulations of Little Tyke and local regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety, and care of children.

Conditions for Satisfactory Performance:

Classroom is well organized, attractive, and cleaned daily.
The equipment is in working order and minimal child injuries occur.
The children are happy and busy in well-planned learning activities.
Licensing representatives and parents present minimal areas of noncompliance and/or concern.

Professionalism:

At the Director's request, attends scheduled staff meetings, workshops, or other meetings pertaining to the early childhood profession.
Obtains a minimum of 30 hours of training per year in areas required by Child Care Regulation. All employees are cross-trained for all age groups to support all classrooms in the center.
Responsible to the Curriculum Director and assists in any capacity whenever the need is presented, including the assignment of other duties.
Displays a sense of humor, common sense, and emotional maturity in dealing with children and their families.
Maintains the ongoing training required by Little Tyke as well as the state.
Presents a professional code of conduct and appearance at all times while employed by Little Tyke.

Conditions for Satisfactory Performance:

Attends required training sessions and Little Tyke events.
Other assigned duties are performed satisfactorily.
The state's ongoing training requirements are met.
Little Tyke's dress code/ code of conduct is followed.


**Summer & Holiday hours may be different, you may be with the children all day. Fun field
trips happen during this time!
