Under the direct supervision of the site Physician, provides health care services to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Produces images of heart muscle and functioning by setting-up ultrasound equipment; attaching electrodes to chest and equipment; operating and adjusting equipment; recording cardiac and vascular data and measurements; protecting and helping patients. Essential Job Functions:
Knowledge/Skills - Competency (1866)
Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy, acquired heart disease and abnormal cardiac pathology.
Ability to identify basic cardiac rhythms/arrhythmias.
Demonstrates knowledge of ultrasound equipment and controls.
Training - Support/Cardio Tech (1866)
Assists in the orientation and hands on training of cardiac/vascular students and new staff .
Work Standards and Practices - Vascular Imaging (1866)
Maintains echocardiography skills and other non-invasive cardiology procedures to provide patient support, as needed: i.e. EKG, Holter monitoring, stressing testing
Maintains licensure CMEs Work Standards and Practices - Cardio Tech (1866)
Demonstrates understanding of departmental procedures and policies for echo and stress echo.
Skills:
Must be able to type 60 WPM with minimum errors
Proficient in adult Transthoracic, Echo, doppler analysis, Stress echocardiography, EKG and Holter monitor hook-up, treadmills, arrhythmia recognition, vascular studies
Familiarity with medical terminology
Familiar with Cardiology PACs and interpretation software
Good organizational, grammatical, and communication skills
Ability to work with a variety of ultrasound equipment
Requirements
Education and Certification Requirements:
Completion of Cardiac Sonography Program Required Certifications/Licensures:
BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association Required
RDCS Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer - ARDMS American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography -or-
RCS Adult Registered Cardiac Sonographer - ARDMS American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Required -and-
RVT Registered Vascular Technologist - ARDMS American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Required
