Job Description

Job Title: Principal Architect.
Job Location: Phoenix, Az Candidate should be local to Phoenix, AZ or willing to relocate from day 1. Job Type: Contract Job Duration: 12 months Job Description: About the Role The Senior Principal Architect is a Solutions Architect role. It is a critical technology leadership position in Matson IT and reports into the head of architecture. This role brings together multiple architecture viewpoints, such as application, cloud, information, data and security architectures to deliver business value and enable Matson to become resilient and future-fit.

What you'll do: Lead solutions architecture, design and analysis:

  • Identify and translate business and technical requirements into a solutions architecture to achieve business objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership in developing approaches to the solution of critical architecture problems and broad design issues.
  • Provide rationale for design decisions, balancing the concerns of the various stakeholders, driving down technical risks, and ensuring that decisions are effectively communicated, validated, and adhered to.
  • Understand business goals and objectives:
  • Specialize in one or more business verticals of Matson to provide business domain specific solutions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of business outcomes, capabilities, value streams and processes, and link them to the portfolio of solutions, including projects, products, services and other systems.
  • Orchestrate solutions delivery:
  • Research, analyze and recommend new technologies, frameworks, processes, and tools to further Matson's technology architecture.
  • Develop proof of concepts that may include, analysis of problem, finding an optimal solution, design, development, and documentation.
  • Participate in governance, review designs, create portfolio roadmaps and monitor current state with the ability to support different development approaches, such as waterfall and agile.
  • Facilitate and collaborate to deliver business value:
  • Work closely and provide support to project managers, application managers, development team, infrastructure engineers, IT operations, IT security and other Matson teams through the full lifecycle of software systems.
  • Build deep relationships with organization leaders.
  • Collaborate with various Matson teams to define application standards, conventions, and best practices.
  • Provide thought leadership by educating and sharing best practices, conducting brown bag sessions, mentoring junior team members, and writing white papers.
  • You have these skills:
  • High degree of technical expertise with foundational architectural principles in building Java and cloud based distributed systems.
  • Expertise in application development using the following technologies:
  • Java EE.
  • Javascript, React.
  • Spring boot.
  • Application servers (e.g. Tomcat, JBoss).
  • Messaging (e.g. Active MQ, JBoss messaging).
  • Database technologies (RDBMS and NoSQL DBs).
  • Linux/Unix.
  • AWS Cloud computing.
  • Familiarity with Application Security concerns and remediation techniques:
  • Knowledge of cryptography and encryption technologies like SSL, SSH, etc.
  • Authentication protocols like OpenID Connect, OAuth, etc.
  • Common vulnerabilities and attack vectors.
  • Well-rounded technical background in current web and micro-service technologies.
  • Ability to thoroughly document architecture. This includes explaining and educating complex solutions and integrations in a clear and articulate manner, using illustrative techniques (e.g. UML diagrams) as necessary.
  • Knowledge of networking, infrastructure and storage components.
  • Critical thinking ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and can communicate effectively at all levels - with the team, peers and with senior management of the company.
  • Comfortable in situations that are ambiguous and can juggle between multiple tasks and rapidly changing priorities.

And these qualifications:

  • Fifteen (15) years of experience in relevant software and IT-related projects.
  • Five (5) years of experience performing as a full-time architect.
  • Bachelor's Degree in technology related field.
