Job Description

Position: Systems Engineer

Location: Elk Grove Village, IL

Duration: 6 + month contract

Note: This position is for midnight shift, with flexibility to work dayshift within 6 months- 12 AM -6 AM CST

Description:

Responsible for supporting all network infrastructure, including but not limited to switches, routers, load balancers, firewalls, Wan Optimization devices and wireless infrastructure. GNOC team member will need to be able to handle all incidents, problem and change management tickets that are for network related issues. Individual will need to interface with our network-related suppliers and vendors. Maintains 24x7 operation and ensures production availability of network infrastructure.

Tasks:

Monitors and manages all network infrastructure to ensure availability and performance metrics are met. - Manages 3rd party relationships relating to Network Operations (i.e. SITA, Lumen, AT&T, etc.) to ensure service levels agreements are met. - Consults with other technology teams to ensure operational success. Delivery/Support - Ensure the availability, performance, and operational integrity of Network Operations domain. - Tracks and escalates open issues to ensure operational success. - Performs root cause analysis to quickly recover from any network service interruption, and to prevent recurring problems. - Coordinates activities with internal and external technology teams to support operational needs of the business. - Reviews all network related change management tickets to ensure their promotion into the production environment is operationally ready. IT Process Management and Administrative - Encourages and enforces compliance to IT Service Management process and procedures pertaining to Network Operations. - Ownership of incident, problem and change management network-related issues.

Preferred Skills:

  • Service Now, Riverbed Optimization, Thousand Eyes, Cisco Tetration, HP Aruba Wireless, Cisco SDWAN, Big Panda, Netmotion, HP NNMi, and Cisco CCNA.

Technical Skillset:

  • General knowledge of LAN/WAN, routing, switching, load balancers, firewall required.
  • Customer Focus: Understands the expectations and requirements of both internal and external customers, acts as their advocate, and communicates transparently to build their trust and respect required.
  • Teamwork: Involves working well in a collaborative setting, supporting work team by volunteering for and completing assignments, acting as a positive team member by contributing to discussions, developing and maintaining both formal and informal relationships enterprise-wide, defines success in terms of the entire team through mentoring and knowledge transfer required.
  • Personal Accountability: Regularly demonstrates personal accountability for their decisions, their actions, and the actions of their team and domain; answers to customers or leadership when outcome does not meet expectation required.
  • Dedication: Involves demonstrating a desire to dedicate time and energy to accomplish goals, tasks, assignments, etc. Will do what it takes on a 24x7x365 basis to support the operation required.
  • Knowledgeable in troubleshooting Cisco and Aruba Wireless networks
  • Familiar with Riverbed Wan Optimization Devices
  • Capable of configuring and troubleshooting HP Aruba and Cisco switch stacks
  • F5 Load Balancing experience
  • Ensure engineering team members are engaged on problem, incidents, and troubleshooting issues. Tickets are being updated following Uniteds standard, or as directed by the Senior Manager.
  • Prioritize problems for team assignment, based on business impact, critical needed.
  • First level escalation for team members.
  • Ensure engineers are joining or starting problem and technical bridges as required.
  • Ensure engineering teams are assigned to change activity duties daily.
  • Review and coordinate daily change schedule for Network and voice Operations.
  • Assign daily changes, and or task to team members.
  • The team lead will verify Operations changes scheduled and ensure there no conflicting changes.
  • Ensure that all operations changes being remain within the scope of the approved change, and within the change window.
  • Train teams on applications, emerging technology, new employees and as required or requested by manager.
  • Ensure all material team members are in line with the Global Network and Voice Operations requirements.
  • Assist, train and mentor team members.
  • Additional task, as assigned by the Sr. Manager of Network and Voice Operations.
  • Escalate issues to the Senior Network and Voice Operations Manager as needed.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Network Engineering with 3 to 5 years of experience supporting a global Network/Voice infrastructure.
  • Any Cisco certifications, CCNA, CCNP would be a plus.
