Job Description:
- The designer supports the analytical system integration project business by creating detailed drawings and development/requisition of the project Bill of Material.
- The designer will provide support to project management, engineering, materials personnel, and craftsman throughout the phases of all projects assigned.
- This position will report to the System Integration Engineering Manager within the GCI Business Segment, Process Automation Business Unit, Process Industries & Drives Division.
- This role will also be the SAP support lead for the system integration engineering team.
- Duties will include completion of approval workflow by entering material demand in SAP and supporting purchase order modifications as required.
- The designer will also coordinate material status in SAP for all projects with the production planner.
- Role may also support SAP part number creation for system integration materials, Master BOM maintenance, surplus stock usage & coordination with warehouse team members, and support for procurement activities (preparation of bid documents, technical review / clarification).
Job Duties:
- The designer is responsible for the planned financial performance, delivery reliability, and customer satisfaction for all projects assigned.
- Work directly with the project engineer to determine the proper analytical system integration solution for the application.
- Assist in the evaluation / selection of equipment to ensure the solution offered meets requirements of the customer specifications.
- Create detailed drawings primarily for sample conditioning system product orders. Role may also be involved with detailed design for shelters or racks including the following drawing types: plan views, elevations, electrical power / signal / communication wiring diagrams, utility piping and tubing schematics, detailed sample probe drawings, alarm system (relay or PLC) detailed wiring diagrams, and fabrication drawings.
- Develop the project Bill of Material.
- Create material requisitions for purchase of equipment.
- Support craftsman during the production phase of the project.
- Finalize design documentation to represent "as built" condition. Review equipment placement, power / signal wiring terminations, piping / tubing routing & connections, part numbers for Bill of Material.
- Support project manager and customer during Factory Acceptance Test.
- SAP support responsibilities include:
- Requisition demand entry and closure of workflow
- Organized and detail oriented when completing material demands errors can stop production workflow and harm our business / customers.
- Effective communication skills with design team, project manager, buyers
- Complete material status change in SAP and coordinate production order number setup with production planner.
Requirements:
- Skilled with AutoCAD software
- Working knowledge of SAP
- Working knowledge of MS Office products
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- 3+ years of experience as a designer
Preferences:
- It is preferred for the candidate to have worked with a manufacturer of analytical equipment or analyzer system integrator as a designer for 3+ years.
- It is preferred for the candidate to have the following general system design knowledge:
- Understanding of electrical equipment including: panelboards, transformers, circuit breakers, lighting, receptacles, disconnect switches.
- Ability to calculate transformer size and balance phases.
- Ability to specify panelboards and size circuit breakers / conductors for each user that is to be powered.
- Working knowledge of relay logic and PLCs for alarm system applications.
- It is preferred for the candidate to have working 3D modeling & 3D design experience especially in using Solid Edge software.
- It is preferred for the candidate to have the following industry specific knowledge:
- Working knowledge of analytical systems integration including analyzer shelters and sample conditioning systems.
- Working knowledge of codes / standards: NEC, IEC, API, NFPA
- Understanding of hazardous area classifications.
- Experience with NEMA 7 electrical equipment for hazardous areas.
- Knowledge of analyzers including: Gas Chromatographs, UV/IR Continuous Gas Analyzers, Paramagnetic Continuous Gas Analyzers, FTNIR, CEMS, pH & conductivity, TOC, Zirconium Oxide / Catalytic Bead stack analyzers.
- Additional knowledge of other software including: ChemCAD, Visual Basic is a plus.
Education:
- It is preferred for the candidate to have AS Degree in Engineering Design or Technology or BS Degree in Engineering Technology.
