The Sr. Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining data warehouse and analytics architecture to meet the companys business analysis and reporting needs. The Data Engineer will be responsible for preparing and reviewing database changes, data mapping, data flow, ETL/ELT processes and also any data layer used for reporting. The Data Engineer will be actively involved in the earlier phases of the project development to ensure the appropriate standards are being met.
Responsibilities:
Analyze, design, code, and test new development and enhancements of the organization s business intelligence data warehouse processes, in accordance with company standards, on schedule and within budget
Able to work at the data model level and its specific requirements (database, schema, index, recommendation on performance issues and SQL construct)
Main deliverables include Data Mapping Source/Target, data integration/interface standards, and data workflow management
Creates and maintains ETL/ELT processes
Design and create Tableau/Power BI dashboards as well as the required supporting architecture (e.g., data marts)
Collaborate with development teams to develop the logical and physical design of databases in support of our products and client solutions
Tests and analyzes data warehouse performance and ensures security of data. Seeks continuous improvement of performance and security
Develops and implements metrics and processes to monitor data warehouse systems and ensure data reliability
Create and maintain documentation, including: business requirements, functional design, technical design, implementation plans, Source to Target Mappings (STTM) and user guides
Prioritizes and respond to business users questions/requests in a timely manner so that functionality can be delivered to the business as quickly as possible
Assists in estimating level of effort for new development, fixes, enhancements; and in identifying high level tasks and resource requirements
Participates in the analysis and requirements gathering processes and develops design specifications
Provide input into defining and steering strategies for the development of data related activities, such as data warehousing, operational data store (ODS), master data management (MDM), and metadata models
Responsible for evaluating the use of data and relating data directly to the goals and practices of the company in a way that provides clear results
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Mathematics or Computer Sciences or related field of study, with an emphasis on statistical and analytical skills, from a four-year College or university and direct experience in data analytics.
3+ years of RDBMS experience with Strong SQL background, comfort with writing stored procedures and functions
1+ years experience with AWS/Azure Cloud Technologies
Data warehousing concepts, design, implementation and Dimensional Modeling
Experience in data profiling, data mapping, data standardization and integration concepts
Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
Strong analytical and critical thinking, pattern recognition/detection, and problem-solving skills; has the ability to think outside of the box
Not required but desirable:
Experience with Tableau or comparable Business Intelligence tools
Experience with Talend, Mulesoft, Informatica
Experience in Webfocus and MSBI suite
Experience in Snowflake platform
Knowledge of CI/CD tools
P&C insurance experience
