What You'll Do

The Sr. Product Designer designs and develops new products and product improvements by performing the following duties. This position is responsible for taking products from concept through production under aggressive timelines. Must possess some knowledge of molding, plastics, soft goods (not required), printing basics and have a strong focus on the design, aesthetic elements and manufacturability of products.


Takes ownership of the entire design and development process of projects assigned.

Conceptualizes, illustrates and communicates new product concepts through quick ideation sketching, 3D CAD drawings (Solidworks), foam mockups and preparing presentation boards.

Participates in concept research, product definition, customer needs and reviews, feasibility and specifications that lead to concept visions and product refinements.

Evaluates, analyzes and makes recommendations for cost improvements to elevate the competitive position of the product and relays this information internally and to overseas operations.

Evaluates current and proposed products based on factors such as appealing appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and production methods application, budget, production costs and specifications.

Must be able to assess product obstacles and use design skills and experience to successfully complete the project.

Responsible for working closely with the Engineering to develop the product through all phases of development and manufacturing.

Responsible for working with Marketing and Branding Teams to drive brand consistency across all products and to establish key design features.

Analyzes test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications as well as safety requirements.

Performs technical analysis of competitive products.

Arranges files or drawings to have prototypes made for in-house evaluation and sales purposes.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Must manage interns to facilitate getting their work complete or to accommodate additional projects.

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Industrial Design is required from a four-year college or university; and six to eight years related experience and/or training.

Must have a strong focus on design aesthetics and awareness of brand.

Must possess knowledge of manufacturing, various molding techniques (injection, overmolding, blowmolding, rotocast, Compression, etc), plastics, soft goods and basic printing.

Must be highly proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop and Solidworks.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations regarding safety standards.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Self-motivated, enthusiastic, with excellent time management

Manage projects with Intern Students

The ability to be able to communicate your ideas clearly

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

The ability to take on constructive criticism and use this to enhance product designs

Excellent team player.
