Job Description


OVERVIEW

The logistics automation engineer will drive the automation and digital innovation pipeline for the General Mills warehouse network, with a goal of improved efficiency that delivers reduced operating costs and improved service resiliency. This role will deliver these improvements for the current fiscal year, scope viable projects for the next fiscal year, and lead the long-term warehousing strategy pipeline. The GMI warehousing network is complex, with over 80 sites, 3 temperature channels, and multiple missions. They range from small public warehouses to 1.5MM sq ft dedicated buildings, all operated by independent 3PLs. This role is a part of the transformation and strategy team supporting logistics operations.

The preferred location for this role is Minneapolis, MN however remote work-at-home applications will be considered

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Identify, evaluate, pilot and deploy new warehouse automation and material handling technologies, including physical layout, material handling equipment, systems, and processes.
Leverage data to drive decision making from project selection to technology application to process design. Identify data and integration gaps and build measurement and D&T plans to match.
Participate in innovation ideations, pipeline building, and assess feasibility and value of ideas.
Work with automation, technology, and software vendors and GMI sourcing team to develop scope of proposed solutions cost (RFQ), and expected benefits (RFP).
Operate as project manager for assigned projects, including gate approval process, identification and resolutions of risk, budget management, value tracking (CMT), and project communication to include SC Control Center.
Partner with 3PL leaders and GMI operations managers to execute projects at each site.
Travel to sites to support project implementations and conferences to search external landscape and interact with automation vendors (estimated 25%)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
5-7 years of experience
Bachelors Degree Engineering, preferably Industrial or Mechanical
Strong track record of leading automation and process improvement projects in large warehouse environments
Working knowledge of digital warehouse management systems, including warehouse design and optimization tools (e.g. labor management systems, yard management systems)
Working knowledge of warehouse operations, material handling equipment, and automation control principles.
Experience in financial business case analysis to ensure project investments meet ROI thresholds
Proven ability to design and implement process improvements
Ability to communicate and influence across organizations, simplifying complex technical topics to what is most important.
Skilled in driving forward in an ambiguous and constantly changing environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in CPG industry
Experience working with 3PL operated sites
Manufacturing based FSA/DDS experience
Experience in asset care and preventative maintenance programs
Familiarity with D&T agile methodology and implimentation process (dev, test, deploy)
Capital engineering or PMO experience
