eBay is seeking a highly skilled, nimble and collaborative professional to serve as Director, Payments Counsel, EU and UK supporting our thriving payments platform and innovation in the financial space. Reporting to our Senior Director, Head of Regulatory, Payments, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the legal team in the EU and UK providing regulatory and product advice on payments and other financial services products at eBay. They will also collaborate closely with eBays Lead Commercial Counsel, Payments, on commercial agreements with our key financial services partners. They will provide targeted and pragmatic counseling to ensure our product offerings remain regulatory compliant and will support engagement with our financial regulators in the EU and UK. This is a great opportunity to lead a hardworking legal team of three professionals and work at the forefront of helping to deliver new payment and e-commerce experiences around the world.Responsibilities
Lead a team of legal professionals in the EU and UK supporting eBays financial services offerings in the region
Translate complex financial regulations into clear requirements for business and product teams
Liaise directly with UK and EU financial regulators and establish a strategy for regulator engagement
Continually monitor the financial services regulatory landscape and proactively advise senior leadership on how eBay should navigate through potential regulatory changes
Work collaboratively with the global legal and compliance teams supporting financial services to ensure that eBays financial products and partnerships are successful and remain legally compliantJob Requirements
Law degree and licensed to practice law in either the EU and/or the UK
7+ years of experience providing financial regulatory advice to regulated non-bank financial institutions preferably in the fintech space, including in-house experience with payments matters in the context of internet or technology companies and/or relevant law firm work
Familiarity with regulations applicable to non-bank financial companies in the EU and UK
Prior experience directly interacting with either the Financial Conduct Authority and/or a major EU regulator of payment institutions
Experience providing strategic and pragmatic regulatory advice to business and product teams
Technical understanding of the payments and financial ecosystem, especially as relevant to marketplaces
Experience working cross-functionally and using critical thinking to achieve business objectives
Sound legal judgment and experience solving problems in a practical manner
In-house legal department experience at a manager levelPreferred Qualifications
Prior experience working closely with the CSSF
Strong interest in alternative payments, emerging payments technology, and the fintech industry
