Senior Front-end Engineer (React & React Native)

Palmo automates the dispatching of electric delivery fleets and optimises their routes in real-time. This allows them to reduce costs, deliver more with their existing fleet and ultimately become more competitive compared to traditional van delivery.

We are headquartered in Berlin and this role requires working on-site for a few days a week with our tight-knit engineering team. We believe that some face-to-face interaction is critical at our early stage and enables us to move faster, but also value the focus and freedom that remote work can offer.

Tasks

We are looking for an exceptional Front-End & Mobile engineer to lead the development for our NextJS Web App and our React Native-based mobile applications. You'll report directly to the CTO and have ownership and responsibility over key areas of our product and technology. As one of our first colleagues, you will be crucial in shaping Palmo s success and culture. We are looking for a generalist who is excited at the prospect of mastering new technologies to solve business problems, and will enjoy the thrills of fast-growing early-stage startups.

You will be responsible for the implementation of our end-user-interfaces. Currently, this is the front-end of the AutoPilot, which our clients use to steer their delivery operations, track the actions of our optimisation algorithm, and intervene manually when necessary. But we have a long list of exciting ideas beyond that, which also includes our own app for delivery drivers.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

• Building real-time web applications with NextJS and GraphQL
• Building React Native applications on iOS and Android devices
• Be a key part of the product development process and help shape and refine the scope of ideas
• Continually look for opportunities to improve operational excellence
• Ensuring the code written is scalable, reusable, and works well across multiple applications inside our repository
• Coordinating with teams responsible for other layers of the product infrastructure

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional experience working with React Native
• 6+ years of professional software development experience
• Firm grasp of the JavaScript language and its experience, including ES6+ syntax and the TypeScript superset
• Excellent knowledge of React and React Native, incl. testing
• Excellent knowledge of modern state management libraries (Flux, Redux)
• Experience both with GraphQL and WebSocket-based web services
• Experience building framework and platform agnostic packages
• Experience working on either complex enterprise-grade systems or proven ability to build a greenfield product from start to finish
• Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements
• Experience with GitHub/GitLab CI/CD
• Willingness to participate in team code reviews and debate ideas
