Duties:
Position Overview: (Major Functions and Non-Essential Functions):
Writes, edits, and proofreads publications, brochures, articles, profiles, proposals, manuals, design documents, reports, event materials, announcements, web content and other documents and materials with attention to correcting errors in typing, spelling, grammar, writing style, and all aspects of technical writing.
English fluency and written communication skills are very important.
The technical writer contributes to the accuracy and credibility of documents written by Clinic Labs staff for both internal and external audiences.
Through interaction with technical staff, the technical writer acquires and applies knowledge to discover and correct errors and exercises judgment in questioning authors regarding content, clarity, word usage, style, etc.
Makes suggestions tactfully and constructively.
Consults with document stakeholders to discuss requirements and style for projects. Works with Media Support services to obtain printed materials and posters. Archives and preserves documents appropriately. Works with staff to draft and format articles for publication.
Ensures compliance with publication and brand standards.
Skills:
Additional Experience and/or Qualifications: (Has Achieved Competency in the Following Areas, Job Knowledge and Additional Considerations):
Familiarity with Associated Press or American Medical Association style or similar style guide.
Exceptional word-processing skills and Web search skills required.
Familiarity with medical terminology, engineering, and general science are desirable.
Education:
Minimum Education and/or Experience Required: (Education Requirements and Experience):
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism or technical writing required.
Professional proofreading or comparable pre-or post-graduate experience required.
Excellent English, spelling, grammar and word use skills required.
Must be detail-oriented, with excellent concentration and attention to detail.
