JOB DIMENSIONS:
(POSITION SUMMARY AND SCOPE OF ROLE: VOLUME, NUMBER OF SITES, ETC.) MAY INCLUDE CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION (NOT TO BE SHARED ON JOB POSTINGS)
Perform quality control testing of raw materials and products, and maintain the record keeping and work instructions required for the ISO program.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE % OF TIME (USING RANGES) FOR EACH ITEM NEXT TO EACH ACTIVITY, TOTALING TO 100%; USE INCREMENTS OF 10% AND HIGHER; BALANCE OF SMALLER ITEMS CAN FALL INTO "OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED") [15%]
- Participate in plant initiatives and pursue personal and team improvement.
- Ensure operational activities and lab performance are aligned with plant/business goals.
- Complete all training assignments on time.
- Complete BBS observations.
- Actively participate in daily safety meetings.
- Take steps necessary to retain all QC Lab technician skills you have developed.
- Assist in training of new QC Lab Technicians.
- Participate in cross controls.
- Participate in both personal and team skill development. Help identify areas of weakness and suggest steps for improvement for yourself, your co-workers, and the lab.
- Perform other duties as assigned. [30%] Perform laboratory sample analyses and promote recycling.
- Ensure produced products meet the specifications and/or expectations of our customers before approving them for sale.
- Operate laboratory instrumentation to complete analysis of all samples including those from production, shipping, recurrence, application lab, and customer.
- Ensure recycling of blocked stock when possible based on recycling advice provided by Quality Manager.
- Communicate effectively with plant personnel. [15%] Maintain QC Lab equipment and consumable inventory
- Ensure correct operation of lab equipment.
- Complete all required instrument maintenance, service and calibration.
- Use troubleshooting skills to identify instrument deviations and problems. Resolve if capable.
- Complete inventories, request quotes and submit purchasing orders for QC Lab consumables. [25%] Manage all QC Lab data
- Develop and use computer skills for various programs including SAP, Excel, Lotus, Success Factor, and all lab instrument software.
- Ensure accurate data entry into computer programs for all required analyses and calibrations.
- Maintain and file hard copies for all required analyses and calibrations. Retain based on the specified company retention policy.
- Participate in audits and inspections as requested. [15%] Maintain a safe, environmentally friendly, clean, and organized lab environment
- Understand the hazards and risks associated with handling various chemicals.
- Understand plant environmental health and safety regulations and comply with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure safe laboratory practices are followed including safe handling of chemicals and other laboratory supplies.
- Complete shift change form daily. The shift change form provides a status of all current samples and equipment as well as provides a guide for tasks required to ensure the lab is in a safe, clean, and organized condition prior to the next technician's shift.
- Clean throughout your shift to maintain a safe working environment. Address any spills immediately to protect yourself, your co-workers and the lab equipment from chemical exposure.
- Maintain good housekeeping in both the retain room and QC Lab warehouse storage area.
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT (INCLUDE % TRAVEL, IF APPLICABLE; THREE HES REFERENCES BELOW ARE REQUIRED ON ALL DESCRIPTION; SITE MAY HAVE ADDITIONAL HES REFERENCES; FOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS REFER TO THE JOB DEMAND FORM FOR THIS ROLE)
- The position requires working on rotating shifts (24/7 operations) at the discretion of supervisory and management personnel.
- The position will periodically require overtime to meet production schedules.
- No travel is required.
- Personal protective equipment (e.g. respirators and chemical resistant clothing, hard hats, safety eyewear, etc.) that may be required at times will increase the level of physical stress experienced by workers.
- Understand the hazards and risks associated with maintenance and repair activities in a chemical manufacturing facility.
- Retain knowledge of basic chemistry and chemical hazards and apply this knowledge in daily work activities.
- Make independent judgments concerning assigned tasks, considering safety and environmental concerns
- Safely wear and/or use required personal protective equipment.
- Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
- Participates in HES activities provided by site management and client. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.).
- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE (INCLUDE DEGREE ATTAINED AND SPECIALTY OF EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES, YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE, SYSTEMS PROFICIENCY, ETC.)
- The minimum educational or experience requirement is a 2-year technical chemistry degree or 5-7 years of related laboratory experience.
- Computer literacy, with experience in Excel, Word, and Access software.
- Physical requirements include continual standing and frequent walking and climbing stairs in the plant.
- Maintain training required to ship hazardous and dangerous goods internationally and domestically
DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCIES (DESCRIBE BEHAVIORS NECESSARY FOR ROLE) Technical expertise.
- Ability to assimilate new information and apply it to unfamiliar situations in the future.
- Ability to improve safety, organization and house-keeping with minimal direction
- Ability to independently utilize Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for the protection of the individual, coworkers, and the environment. Organizational expertise
