Job Description

Our Client is looking for a self-motivated person with experience in maintaining a manufacturing schedule by coordinating the purchasing and receipt of materials with the machine build schedule. Our Client is a family-owned, locally operated machinery manufacturer who, for over 100 years in Hanover, PA, has designed and assembled custom machines for clients throughout the world. Our clientele includes the railroad, mining, automotive, renewable energy and most recently the aerospace industries. Our dedicated Team Members takes great pride in the craftsmanship which leaves our shop floor. Job Summary:

You will be primarily responsible for Purchasing, on time receipt and inventory of materials and services.

You will be expected to develop processes that utilize our ERP system more fully for purchasing and inventory control.

You will be part of the team responsible for creating and following a flexible scheduling system that helps us to serve clients and meet our manufacturing goals of on time shipments, accurate inventory, and increasing gross profit.

Once the schedule is set, the Buyer is the liaison between sales, engineering, and manufacturing, to ensure order fulfillment dates are met and roadblocks are communicated timely and effectively between departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and develop regional, national, and international vendors; send RFQ's; select, negotiate, and issue purchase orders to vendors for raw materials, outside services, and components needed to build our machines.
  • Own the day-to-day functions of purchase order management and processing to include reviewing acknowledgements and updating PO's as needed including scheduled ship dates
  • Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate with them for their pre-inspection of goods in accordance with our PO; support for our design team; the best pricing; and payment terms to match our cash flow. You will be measured on the Purchasing and Materials team's contribution to profitability and on time shipments.
  • Create a system to measure and provide feedback to vendors.
  • Create a system for constant schedule and price updates in the ERP System and inform the other team leaders of updates on the master project schedules
  • Learn to fully utilize the Purchasing and Inventory modules in our ERP system.
  • Monitor upcoming manufacturing requirements through the ERP system and by communicating regularly with Fabrication and Assembly leaders to ensure that materials are in place at the required time.
  • Coordinate with Accounting and Warehouse Team Members to maintain an accurate inventory through cycle counting and checking that vendor Packing Lists and Invoices match the PO to approve them for payment
  • Recommend solutions to existing processes to reduce waste and increase quality.
  • Prepare purchasing department SOP's and work with accounting to develop Key Performance Indicators.
  • Work with Engineering to identify multiple sources and equivalent models of components.
  • Work with Fab to identify outside service vendors and monitor their deliveries.
  • Comply with all safety and health regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent computer skills (Excel and Microsoft Word).
  • Experience with an ERP system, Global Shop is helpful
  • Critical thinking and negotiation skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Commitment to a schedule
  • Past experience in a manufacturing environment.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma

5 years as a primary purchasing or materials coordinator in an industrial environment preferred.

Certification such as ISM or APICS is helpful
