Job Description

Your mission

As a Java Developer at Wandelbots, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the middleware component of our solution. This component, which we call WBX, plays a central role in our software stack, as it supports the iOS frontend, interfaces with hardware components like our TracePen device, and relies on services provided by the robot integration, motion control, etc.

Within our agile software development process, you will directly work with a cross-functional team centred around a specific customer application like welding or grinding. Being at the heart of the software stack means that there is a strong need to literally "think outside the box". Hence, beyond strong Java skills, you should have a solid interest in other technologies, and a good feeling for multi-technology systems.

On a daily basis and as member of a community of practice you will:

  • You will help define requirements for the WBX component, based on feature requirements for the application, and also based on changes and extensions of the robot and device integrations.
  • You will discuss and implement the gRPC interface of the component and the corresponding Java implementation.
  • You will maintain the build system and CI pipelines.
  • You will dedicate 10% of your time to learning and teaching.

Your profile

What you need:

  • You have several years of experience building object-oriented Java software.
  • You are experienced in automated software testing.
  • You have an understanding of the concepts used in modularized and multi-layer software, and you have used technologies for communication between software components.
  • You are confident in the use of software design patterns and are able to communicate about them.
  • You enjoy learning and are able to share knowledge with your colleagues.

A plus:

  • You have a deep understanding of how to develop scalable high-quality software.
  • You are able to think outside of the box to find the best solution, engaging others along the way.
  • You have extensive knowledge about OSGi.
  • You are a team player, open, communicative, passionate, and ambitious.
  • You love challenges, solve problems, work in a self-initiated way and are reliable.
  • You love robots!
