Job Description

We are searching for a full-time Senior Automation Controls Engineer whose work will help us develop process control and automation for our robotic work cells. Our products are transforming the static robotics industry by endowing industrial robots with level 4 autonomy. This level of autonomy is needed to perform an extensive variety of useful tasks and integrate tightly with our customers complex software environments.

As aSenior AutomationControls Engineer you will have had a track record of success in developing and implementing control and automation systems for electro-mechanical automation. The candidate must have good analytical and problem-solving skills, be detail-oriented and well organized.

What Youll be Doing

    • You will use PLC programming products, such as those made by Beckhoff and Allen Bradley to automate industrial processes.
    • You will use drafting tools (SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematic Professional) to create electrical schematics.
    • You will develop mechanical and electrical requirements for automation projects.
    • Create documentation such as I/O list, loop diagrams, BOMs, schematics and drawings.
    • Create installation and operation manuals and troubleshooting guides for process equipment.
    • Select sensors and HMIs and size electrical components such as relays, circuit breakers, motors, starters, and VFDs.
    • Participate in design reviews internally with peers and present progress.

Experience and Skills Youll Need

    • BS or MS in an Engineering field with 5+ years experience: Electrical Engineering (preferred), Mechanical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Science, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc. with experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and electromechanical systems using Programming Logic Controllers (PLC).
    • Experience with design cycle and documentation, implementing products and processes from concept design to delivery.
    • Familiar with Industry Standards UL and CE.
    • Familiar with various Motion Controllers/Actuators.
    • Experience and skill in troubleshooting control system issues.
    • Experience with serial communication (RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, ProfiBus etc) between PLCs and instruments and microcontrollers.
    • Experience with ethernet communications between machine PLCs and database systems.
    • Experience with selecting PLC hardware, I/O, VFD and instrumentation, appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, and instrumentation.
    • Proficiency creating detailed process (P&ID), electrical and pneumatic schematics.
    • Exposure to a wide variety of production machinery, industrial sensors and equipment.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have the ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines individually and as part of a team.

Bonus if You Have

    • Ability to use 3D CAD packages such as SolidWorks.

The above full-time position is available immediately. You should be willing to move to the SF Bay Area.
