Job Description

Summary
The Metrology Scientist will lead the development of the metrology system at ATC in support of the company vision to become a Center of Excellence.

Roles & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Broad experience in various test and measurement processes for materials characterization and optical testing.
  • Desired test experience includes optical spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, mechanical test such as DMA or tensile testing, chemical characterization (GC, particle size)
  • Test Methods Develop new test methods in support of the ATC mission of new product development. Collaborate with international teams of the company to develop consistent test methods within the company.
  • Test Procedures Develop procedures to support test methods, coordinating operator training to ensure consistency.
  • Data Develop and maintain a process for data collection and storage, ensuring access for effective analysis within ATC. Work with IT to ensure data is consistently backed up.
  • Control Plans Develop and maintain control plans for key test equipment, to ensure the consistent collection of key data for analysis.
  • Data Analysis Analyze key Control Plan data to understand test equipment variation and establish effective control limits. Monitor data and implement recovery plans when data moves outside the control limits.
  • New Equipment Work with the ATC team to define new equipment requirements, for subsequent quoting and purchase.
  • Validation Plans Develop and execute validation plans for new, modified, moved, and calibrated test equipment.
  • Calibration Maintain / enhance the calibration program. Ensure test equipment is identified and calibrated on a timely basis and records are stored.
  • Service Contracts Identify key test equipment for service contract coverage and ensure service contracts are in place and effectively utilized.
  • Software Work with suppliers and IT to ensure that test equipment software is current and supported.
  • Budget Provide input to support the annual budget cycle.
  • Other Duties All other duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters or higher in a scientific or engineering technical field.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • A successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, demonstrated ability across a range of metrology tools and statistical methods to resolve problems, be a collaborator, and be comfortable operating hands-on in the metrology role.

EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the metrology field, with demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of metrology tools.
  • A working knowledge of statistics is required with a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) being preferred
  • Familiarity with lab management practices and an elevated level of safety awareness.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and reporting skills
  • Able to effectively communicate with written, verbal or other methods across a global organization and several cross-functional departments
  • Ability to travel up to 10% (national and international)
  • PREFERRED An understanding of optics is strongly desirable for this role.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
  • Minitab
