Job Description

DASH seeks a Finance Director & Controller to lead all accounting operations for the organization. With a budget of approximately $10 million and 50+ staff members, this position oversees all finance, accounting, and reporting activities. The Finance Director & Controller will lead all day-to-day finance operations, including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, grants administration, audits, and regulatory compliance. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is part of the Senior Management Team. It is not currently a direct manager but does have some supervisory responsibilities to support the day-to-day operations of the Finance team.
As a senior member of the Finance team, the Controller will support the CFO in overall management of finance operations for DASH, work to proactively and creatively develop reports, improve systems, and deliver presentations to executive leadership and DASH S Board to aid in decision-making by leaders across the organization.
The Finance Director & Controller may also work with program leaders and their teams to: (1) educate them on finance and accounting procedures; and (2) explore how finance can best support program and business operations. They will collaborate closely with all staff responsible for budget and grant administration to ensure that they are keeping accurate and reliable reports on the organization s sustainability.
The Controller plays a pivotal role in sustaining growth and success while continually assessing internal systems and needed resources with an eye toward future needs and budget realities.
The nature of work may require some mandatory compensatory time, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position is hybrid (in-person & remote) located in Washington DC.

In addition, per our existing Covid-19 testing & vaccination policy protocol, every employee is required to be fully Covid-19 vaccinated or have an exemption form, medical or religious, on file with the People & Culture Department prior start date.

Finance and Accounting
Manage and oversee all accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable,
ledgers, and revenue recognition, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory
requirements.
Develop and maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, budgets, and
expenditures.
Support the CFO and work with the Executive Team and Senior Directors to develop departmental
financial plans for the DASH operational budget and/or for budgets for grant proposals, ensuring
organization-wide operational compliance with DASH s financial policies.
Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
Manage and oversee all audit activity and regulatory compliance at DASH.
Oversee indirect rates reporting and management and preparation of the company s NICRA,
working with DASH s external accounting firm, as necessary.
Support and thought partner with the CFO in preparation for engaging the Board s finance and audit
committee.
Assist in the coordination and preparation of financial statements and financial reports per regulatory
and legal requirements, and as directed, provide analysis and recommendations to the CFO and
President & CEO.
Assist in the development, tracking, analyzing, and presentation of financial reports in an accurate and
timely manner to support the needs of senior leaders to aid their decision-making.
Work with the Development team to track and manage donor contributions and oversee the
reconciliation between Finance and Development.
Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of finance and accounting policies and
procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting, internal
controls, and other corporate policies.
Support the process for continuous improvement of accounting practices and procedures to increase
efficiency within the Finance team and across the organization, including the implementation and
operation of financial systems and tools.

Collaboration, Staff Management & Administration
Provide day-to-day mentoring and support to a team of two full-time accounting staff members.
Provide leadership in strengthening internal finance communications with staff across the
organization and promote a positive, supportive work environment.
Support Finance-related special projects as appropriate.
Assist in employee recruitment, performance evaluation, promotion, retention, and termination
activities as requested by the CFO.
Participate in team meetings and internal DASH training opportunities.
Identify professional development opportunities, maintaining and improving professional and
technical knowledge by attending educational workshops / courses, reviewing professional
publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

Requirements

Education:
Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required with a minimum of five years
related experience.
CPA preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and professional experience in the relevant
technical/programmatic area maybe substituted for education.

Experience:
7-10 years related experience, with at least five years in finance director/controller role.
3+ years of direct grants management, nonprofit organization/s, and/or public accounting experience.
Proven experience in and advanced knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting,
compliance, and reporting.
Deep knowledge of automated financial systems and system integration with non-financial applications.
Extensive experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, general ledger, accounts
payable, accounts receivable, and payroll transactions and processes for a complex nonprofit
organization with multiple funding sources to ensure flawless audits.
Thorough knowledge of GAAP, including the accounting cycle, monthly and year-end closing, financial
reporting, and analysis.
Experience working with teams from diverse, multicultural backgrounds.
Demonstrated project management experience ensuring project deliverables, goals, and expected
outcomes are met within scope, timelines, and budget.
Demonstrated experience producing excellent written materials and presentation that conveycomplex financial concepts and impacts.
Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining partnerships with individuals and groups
outside of the domestic violence field.
Experience leading with innovation and centering collaboration and teamwork.
Strong sense of humor and ability to work with a dynamic team.

Technical Requirements:
Proficiency in the following software programs is necessary for this role:
Financial systems, such as QuickBooks Online, Intacct, BILL, Tallie, or similar systems.
Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Project Management Platforms such as Airtable and Monday


EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required, with preference to Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: None EXPERIENCE: Minimum five years of experience in gift operations KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Understanding of IRS regulations and laws relating to charitable giving Familiarity with accounting standards, principles, procedures, and financial reporting Proven organizational problem solving skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines Experience improving efficiencies and the quality of business processes Working knowledge of database systems, with preference to Blackbaud Raiser's Edge Highly proficient with computers, including superior spreadsheet skills Able to work independently or as a team member Analytical, detail-oriented, and highly accurate Ability to work with, interpret, and utilize financial information Must be systems and process oriented Committed to highest level of performance Must be focused on the obligation to donors to be good stewards of their philanthropy Willingness and desire to dedicate time and effort to research best practices
