Lab Support Engineer

Location: Onsite in Durham, NC.

Duration: 9 months with extension up to 1 year.

Period: 2022-09-12 to 2023-04-28

Responsibilities:

Complex network cabling installation and removal, Rack & Stack of various computer equipment

Installation and deployment of OS, Configuration of network and other custom software

Troubleshooting of various hardware, software, OS and networking

Daily communication primarily with colleagues within functional area and senior members of the team

Provides resolutions to an assortment of problems of moderately complex scope. Uses judgment within defined practices and procedures

Manage priorities given by manager, contributes to team efforts to achieve goals. Seizes opportunities quickly and completes task completely. Leads others to do the same

Works under normal supervision. Follows established procedures. Detailed instructions given for new assignments. Work is reviewed for accuracy and overall adequacy

Work/collaborate cross functionally with team members, internal and external stakeholder organizations to maintain a reliable testing environment

Develop standards and process and engage in continuous improvement of process

Reporting various bugs, defects and issues found during installation and deployment of systems

Requirements:

7+ years related experience

Demonstrated professional communication skills. Capable of representing the organization. Builds relationships based on trust

Expertise in networking technologies, OS installation and administration, NAS systems

Advanced skills with configuration of multiple operating systems including Windows, Linux, UNIX, VMware ESXi

Basic Cabling, Pulling and Removing Cables, Rack & Stack

Accomplishes specialized tasks. Trains others on tasks/tools. Qualifies processes and procedures. Manages ambiguity e.g. brings clarity to "noisy" situations

Engages with & challenges organization management both technically and strategically

Can train/mentor lower level techs

Knows and acts on priority. Inputs to and shapes functional goals. Anticipates changes and formulates plans to address

Hard Skills:

Operating Systems: Linux, Unix, Windows, VMware

Hardware: x86 architecture,server platforms, NAS (Network Attached storage)

Networking: Arista,Mellanox platforms

RESPONSIBILITIES Provide general architectural level client/server and SAN/storage array support for the configuration and maintenance of the engineering computer lab systems for the lab computing environment. Responsible for participating in the development of test configuration plans for the lab computing environment infrastructure. Responsible for ensuring proper deployment of fiber-channel storage arrays, hosts, switches, software, and storage networking infrastructure. Ensure that the technical environment is properly monitored and that any problems are rectified. Maintain a working knowledge of all documented processes and procedures. Identifies opportunities for improvements in efficiency and responsiveness, makes recommendations and assists to implement efficiencies. Mentor and project-supervise less experienced Lab System Engineers. Identify system or storage performance issues and participate in the development of tools to improve system management. Provides technical expertise in the development of collaborative platform client application/customer interface Identify and execute on proactive and preventative system upgrades.
