Job Description
- Conducting laboratory research to improve oil recovery methods, including developing new extraction techniques or improving existing ones
- Conducting research to improve current oil recovery methods or develop new methods for extracting oil from depleted wells
- Consulting with oil companies about the geology of oil deposits around the world
- Conducting geological surveys of mining sites to determine the best places to drill for oil or natural gas reserves
- Conducting fieldwork to locate new oil reserves or monitor the progress of existing oil wells
- Evaluating data from seismic tests to estimate the size of an underground reserve of oil or gas
- Analyzing data from drilling operations, including the chemical composition of the rock and fluid samples and the pressures encountered during drilling
- Conducting computer simulations to model the behavior of fluids in porous materials, such as rocks containing oil or gas deposits
- Conducting research on enhanced recovery techniques, such as carbon dioxide injection or steam injection, to increase oil production from existing wells
