Roles and responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Platform Lead Engineer to spearhead the migration of our e-commerce platform from AWS to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This is a key leadership role where you will not only drive the migration project but also shape the future of our cloud infrastructure, ensuring it remains resilient, cost-effective, and scalable. You will play a pivotal role in optimizing our cloud environment while guiding a team transitioning from AWS to GCP.

Key Responsibilities

• Migration Leadership: Lead the end-to-end migration process of our e-commerce platform from AWS to GCP. You will ensure a smooth, efficient transition, minimizing disruptions while taking advantage of GCP’s advanced features to improve performance and scalability.

• Platform Strategy & Architecture: Define and implement cloud platform strategies that support business goals, driving innovation and cost efficiency. You will also provide expert guidance on cloud architecture, ensuring best practices for performance, security, and scalability on GCP.

• Mentorship & Team Development: As a leader, you will mentor and support engineers who have a strong background in AWS but are transitioning to GCP. You will help them learn new skills and implement GCP best practices, ensuring a smooth skill transition while maintaining team cohesion and morale.

• Technical Leadership: While your leadership will be strategic, you’ll also engage in hands-on technical work when necessary. You will resolve complex cloud-related issues and work with the team to optimize cloud infrastructure, focusing on performance and reliability.

• Cloud Best Practices & Innovation: Advocate for industry best practices in cloud infrastructure, including microservices deployment on GCP. Stay abreast of the latest GCP features and services, advocating for their adoption where they can deliver innovation and efficiency to the platform.

• Cost Optimization: Constantly monitor and optimize our GCP infrastructure for cost-effectiveness. You will identify opportunities to reduce cloud spend while improving system performance, ensuring the platform remains scalable as we grow.

• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance cloud solutions. You’ll ensure that all teams understand the capabilities and benefits of GCP and how to integrate them into their workflows.

Desired candidate profile

Required Skills and Experience

• Deep GCP Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with core GCP services, such as Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, and other critical components.

• Cloud Migration Experience: Proven experience leading large-scale cloud migrations, especially from AWS to GCP, with a strong understanding of the challenges and strategies involved in such transitions.

• Programming and Automation Skills: Proficiency in programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Go, Java, Bash), and hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

• Certifications: GCP certifications like Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Data Engineer, or Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer are highly desirable.

• Strong Communication & Mentorship: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and guide engineers as they develop expertise in GCP.

• Agile and DevOps: Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and DevOps practices to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
