Roles and responsibilities

In this role, you will collaborate with product, commercial, and other technical teams to align on priorities and requirements. This cross-functional work ensures that features, enhancements, and tooling requests are understood and addressed, while also supporting the broader business goals. You will be responsible for driving the execution of the Travel roadmap, making sure that initiatives align with business objectives and that services are reliably delivered. You will also play a hands-on role in managing the ongoing delivery of services, including monitoring operational performance and taking proactive steps to resolve any issues.

A key aspect of this position is continuously improving the engineering and management processes within the team. You’ll work to streamline workflows, implement best practices, and optimize performance in a way that enables the team to consistently deliver high-quality results. Your leadership will help ensure that your team remains focused on meeting deadlines and producing scalable, maintainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Work cross-functionally with product, commercial, and technical teams to define and prioritize business requirements and technical solutions.
• Manage the design and development of scalable microservices, ensuring they meet Groupon’s platform demands.
• Oversee daily operations, including delivery management, to ensure services run smoothly and meet business needs.
• Drive team performance and engineering processes to continuously improve delivery, quality, and efficiency.

Desired candidate profile

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, with at least 8 years of engineering experience.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in an engineering leadership role, including managing a team of engineers.
• Strong experience designing and implementing large, scalable distributed systems.
• Expertise in backend development, particularly with RESTful APIs and relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Java, Node/Express.js, and React.js.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
