Roles and responsibilities

As a key member of the maintenance team, you will oversee fault diagnosis and repair of various heavy material handling and mobile lifting equipment in the shipyard. This includes, but is not limited to, crawler cranes (100 – 1000T), mobile cranes, self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs), trailers, transporters, fuel and electric forklifts, spider cranes, manlifts, cherry pickers, service trucks, and fuel trucks. Your role will be to ensure these assets are maintained and returned to operational status in a safe and timely manner.

You will perform a range of maintenance activities, including preventive, predictive, condition-based, and breakdown maintenance, demonstrating a strong understanding of shipyard equipment. Leading maintenance teams, you will emphasize safe and environmentally friendly practices, striving for zero incidents in designated work areas.

A significant part of your role will involve identifying cost-effective solutions to enhance equipment availability and reliability without compromising safety. You will actively engage with the ISO 55001 Asset Management System, ensuring its principles are applied effectively in your operations. Additionally, you will be responsible for logging data and updating work completions and work orders in the ERP system as directed by maintenance supervisors or superintendents.

Effective management of maintenance contractors will be crucial, ensuring their work aligns with company procedures while optimizing cost efficiency. You will inspect and test completed tasks to confirm safe operation before handing equipment over to the user department. Your responsibilities will also include leading activities related to the movement, installation, mothballing, and repositioning of assets, as well as communicating with maintenance supervisors about the status of equipment and identifying improvement opportunities.

Desired candidate profile

Qualifications

You should possess a Technical Diploma in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering or an equivalent qualification.

Experience

A minimum of 12-15 years of hands-on experience in managing shipyard assets, particularly heavy material handling and mobile lifting equipment, as well as industrial hydraulic systems, is required. Previous experience in shipyards or similar facilities is essential.

Maintaining tools and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition will also fall under your responsibilities. You will follow up on and execute recommendations from the Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) related to zone assets, contributing to ongoing improvement initiatives aligned with maintenance strategies.

Fostering a positive team environment, you will promote a strong work ethic and high standards within the department, while also training and mentoring co-workers and apprentices to enhance their maintenance skills.
