This includes reviewing and supporting the preparation of documentation and developing effective mitigation proposals. A cost-conscious approach is essential for optimizing the utilization of equipment and manpower while ensuring all work-related matters are promptly reported to Division and Department Management.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities encompass identifying improvement opportunities in lifting and transportation operations to optimize costs, enhance resource utilization, and extend the lifecycle of equipment. The individual will be accountable for managing, maintaining, and improving the health, safety, and environmental performance of the organization.
Preparation of lifting plans in collaboration with the Lifting Engineer is crucial, ensuring they align with load handling requirements and the capabilities of available lifting equipment. Leadership skills are necessary to guide assigned foremen, crew members, and contractors in successfully meeting project lifting and rigging requirements.
Additionally, assisting foremen in team distribution and assigning daily tasks based on operational priorities will be a part of the daily responsibilities. The role will support Superintendents and the Lifting & Rigging Manager in planning and maximizing resource utilization and performance within the department.
Collaboration with the Technical Services HSE team is essential to engineer out potential hazards, fostering a safe working environment for all employees. The individual will be responsible for reviewing and confirming that all safety and operational requirements are fulfilled prior to any lifting or transfer operations.
Compliance and Safety Standards
A strong awareness of applicable regulations and standards, including ISO, BS EN, ASME, and LOLER, is necessary to ensure compliance in all lifting and rigging activities. The role includes supporting and reviewing lift and rigging plans, along with sling and shackle arrangements, in conjunction with Lifting Engineers.
Providing expertise and guidance to Lifting Engineers, supervisors, and senior management is a critical function, ensuring that all operational requirements, including method statements and risk assessments, are clearly defined. It is imperative to verify that all lifting and rigging tools used are within their Safe Working Load (SWL), duly certified, and operational.
Team Management and Training
Supporting departmental management in recruitment, training, and certification processes is essential. This includes appraising team members’ performance, addressing complaints, and resolving issues in collaboration with Technical Services Management.
The role promotes continual process improvement in lifting and rigging operations and includes training local workforce members while sharing knowledge and expertise with the team.
Working Relationships
The position involves regular internal interactions with the L&R Superintendent, L&R Manager, engineers, supervisors, and the HSE and inspection teams. Externally, collaboration with the HSE department, MRO team, and construction supervisors for new vessels and rigs is vital to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
