Roles and responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Agroforestry Specialist to design and promote innovative agroforestry systems that enhance sustainable land use practices, in alignment with the Saudi Green Initiative. This role is critical in integrating forestry and agriculture to contribute to a greener future for Saudi Arabia. The successful candidate will play a vital role in advancing agroforestry techniques that not only promote environmental sustainability but also support local communities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and Promotion of Agroforestry Systems:

   • Develop and implement agroforestry systems that enhance land use sustainability within the framework of the Saudi Green Initiative. This involves creating models that combine forestry and agriculture effectively, considering ecological and economic factors.

2. Technical Support and Integration:

   • Provide expert technical assistance to integrate forestry and agricultural practices, ensuring that both sectors work synergistically. This requires a deep understanding of forest-agriculture interactions and their ecological implications.

3. Alignment with Sustainability Goals:

   • Ensure that all agroforestry practices align with the afforestation and sustainability goals set forth by the Saudi Green Initiative. This includes maintaining compliance with environmental regulations and contributing to biodiversity conservation efforts.

4. Training and Capacity Building:

   • Conduct training sessions and workshops for stakeholders, including farmers, local communities, and governmental bodies, on agroforestry techniques and best practices. Empowering these groups through knowledge transfer is essential for the success of agroforestry initiatives.

5. Monitoring and Evaluation:

   • Establish monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness of implemented agroforestry systems. Regularly evaluate progress toward environmental targets and adjust strategies as necessary to improve outcomes.

6. Collaboration and Strategy Development:

Desired candidate profile

Qualifications and Experience:

• Education: Master’s degree in Agroforestry, Forestry, or a related field.
• Experience: A minimum of 15 years of experience in agroforestry or sustainable agriculture projects, demonstrating a track record of successful program implementation.
• Expertise: In-depth knowledge of agroforestry and sustainable land management practices, along with a strong understanding of the ecological impacts of forest-agriculture interactions.
• Community Engagement: Proven experience in promoting sustainable agriculture practices and engaging with communities to foster participation and ownership.
• Communication Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders, ensuring that initiatives are understood and supported at all levels.
