Roles and responsibilities

We are seeking a subject matter expert to provide advisory support for the sixteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). This important event will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 2 to 13, 2024. The expert will play a crucial role in the project team coordinating activities within the Green Zone, which aims to engage diverse stakeholders in meaningful discussions about combating desertification.

The primary responsibility of the expert will involve reviewing content submissions related to the Green Zone activities. This will require a thorough understanding of topics pertinent to the UNCCD's goals and objectives, particularly those addressing land degradation, sustainable land management, and the broader implications for climate change and biodiversity. The expert will evaluate the suitability of various submissions, ensuring they align with the overarching themes of COP16 and contribute positively to the dialogue on desertification and land management.

In addition to content evaluation, the expert will allocate sessions to the appropriate forums and sections of the conference program.
