This role is critical for enhancing operational efficiency and safety across our rail operations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on experience in railway operations and a solid track record in training and assessment.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Operations Expert will be responsible for delivering both practical and classroom training sessions tailored for various operational environments, including yards, sidings, terminals, and mainlines. You will conduct competency assessments for both onboard and off-board staff, ensuring that all personnel meet the required standards of safety and efficiency.
Your role will also involve completing essential paperwork and administrative tasks associated with training and assessments. Providing constructive feedback to candidates and their managers, both verbally and in writing, will be a significant part of your responsibilities. In cases of operational incidents, you will formulate and implement remedial training programs, contributing to Continuous Development Plans (CDPs) aimed at improving future performance.
In addition to training, you will be expected to provide operational advice to the business, ensuring best practices are maintained. Your expertise will be crucial in creating training materials specific to Dangerous Goods (DG) train handling, ensuring all staff are adequately prepared to report DG incidents effectively.
Collaboration is key in this role; you will liaise closely with Operations Compliance and Standards specialists to develop and update training programs. Writing new operational notices to maintain competence and standards will also fall under your purview. Supporting onboard and off-board supervisors, as well as the operations manager, will be essential to ensure seamless operations and adherence to safety protocols.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess an excellent background in railway operations, with a demonstrated ability to deliver both classroom and practical training. You should either be a qualified assessor or actively working towards one, with a strong understanding of Competence Management Systems (CMS).
Physical fitness is a requirement, as candidates must pass necessary medical checks to ensure they can perform their duties effectively. Furthermore, excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken, is essential for clear communication and effective training delivery.
