Roles and responsibilities

Parsons is seeking a highly skilled GIS Specialist to enhance our team! The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge in the planning, setup, and operation of cloud-based GIS platforms tailored for building and infrastructure projects. A comprehensive understanding of leading GIS software and international standards is essential.

Key Responsibilities

1. Subject Matter Expertise

   • Act as the primary GIS expert within the program, offering guidance on all GIS-related inquiries within the client organization.

2. GIS Strategy Development

   • Lead the creation and implementation of GIS strategies, standards, and best practices aligned with organizational goals.

3. Geospatial Database Management

   • Design and oversee geospatial databases, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and accessibility for users.

4. Spatial Analysis and Modeling

   • Conduct spatial analyses to support decision-making and tackle complex spatial challenges.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

   • Work closely with diverse teams to integrate GIS into various projects and workflows effectively.

6. User Training and Support

   • Provide comprehensive training and technical support on GIS software, tools, and methodologies to end-users.

7. Technology Trends

   • Stay informed about emerging GIS technologies and trends, recommending innovative solutions to enhance capabilities.

8. Stakeholder Liaison

   • Engage with external stakeholders and represent the organization in GIS forums and working groups.

9. Policy Development

   • Contribute to the creation of GIS-related policies, procedures, and documentation.

Desired candidate profile

Required Skills and Qualifications

• GIS Software Proficiency

  • Expertise in GIS tools, especially the Esri ArcGIS suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).

• Analytical Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with proficiency in interpreting and visualizing spatial data.

• Communication Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, capable of conveying technical information to non-technical audiences.

• Leadership Experience

  • Proven experience in leading GIS projects and teams, demonstrating effective leadership abilities.

• Work Environment Adaptability

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities efficiently.

• Knowledge of SDI

  • Familiarity with spatial data infrastructure (SDI) concepts and their implementation is advantageous.

• Relevant Sector Experience

  • Background in urban planning, environmental management, transportation, or utilities is beneficial.
