The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 musician with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1. Title. Catholic Mass Music Musician/Director consults coordinates with and is monitored by the Resources and Requirements Catholic Priest or Designee.
2. Scope of Responsibilities. Contractor provides the music activities for the Catholic Worship Service. The Contractor shall provide labor and management to support the responsibilities outlined within this PWS. These responsibilities include but are not limited to playing training and scheduling music for the various Catholic worship services in collaboration with the Catholic Priest.
2.1. Director services shall be required for rehearsals liturgies and special liturgies.
2.2. Special liturgies include but are not limited to: memorial masses funeral liturgies combine services faith specific holidays and occasional support for special events. These special liturgies could occur on any day of the week to include week days.
3. Education and Experience. Music Director(s) shall:
3.1. Have a degree in music from an accredited institution is preferred. (A minimum of four years of experience in Catholic Church music may be substituted.)
3.2. Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and traditional Christian music is required. Ability to effectively lead a choir and all music required for Mass. The ability to evaluate subcontractor competence/performance in these areas is required.
3.3. Previous experience in a Catholic military chapel setting is preferred however not required.
3.4. Ability to coordinate all music activities of the Catholic program is required.
3.5. Ability to administer both the documentation of services performed and the timely rendering
of payment for subcontractor services (if used) is required.
4. General Responsibilities. Music Director shall:
4.1. Provide director support for the Catholic worship service at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson Chapel (JBER).
4.2. The Music Director will provide support for a minimum of 1 rehearsals and 1 worship service each week for the Catholic Service.
4.3. Collaborate musical selections with the Catholic Priest and designated music accompanist.
4.4. Lead the choir and congregation in worship.
4.5. Coordinate all support requirements with the Catholic Priest or their designated representative.
4.6. Assist the Catholic Priest or their designated representative in developing the following in regards to Music Director Programs as appropriate: annual calendar of events Chapel Tithes and
Offerings Fund budget appropriated fund budget and core volunteer training requirements.
4.7. Return any and all United States (U.S.) Government owned music scores and equipment obtained in the performance of the required duties following the last service provided under the contract.
4.8. Not engage in the unauthorized duplication of copyrighted materials by photocopying or any other means that would expose the Government to liability for penalties under existing or future copyright laws.
4.9. Provide a temporary replacement due to leave of absence or sickness/illness as necessary to ensure 100% coverage for all responsibilities listed within this PWS. The replacement shall meet or exceed the qualifications of the Music Director. This shall be coordinated with and approved by the Catholic Priest/Deputy Wing Chaplain and/or their designee at least 14 days prior to the start of performance of the approved replacement. Approval of a replacement will be handled on a case by case basis.
4.10. The contractor shall ensure that all facilities used are properly secured to include all doors and windows following the conclusion of all rehearsals and worship services. In addition contractor will ensure applicable music equipment (to include cords microphones DI boxes) is properly stored following each rehearsal and worship service.
4.11. Request and maintain all supplies and resources necessary for running the Catholic music program.
5. Specific Responsibilities. Music Director shall:
5.1. Arrive at least 60 minutes prior to the beginning of worship services and special services and 15 minutes prior to the beginning of each rehearsal. Adequate preparation must be made for the worship service to include musical warm up review and correct (if applicable) all visual media (e.g. Microsoft PowerPoint presentation of musical arrangements for worship service) in coordination with the audio visual volunteer testing of sound equipment including sound checks of microphones.
5.2. Submit purchase/repair requests as needed for support of the music program to the Catholic Priest or their designated representative.
5.3. Be accountable for opening and securing any facilities used for rehearsals and ensuring any space utilized is left in a clean and professional appearance.
5.4. Maintain a professional attitude and environment to include hygiene and appearance.
5.5. Select music that is consistent with the nature of the designated liturgy.
5.6. Provide arranged improved and/or scored music as appropriate for compatibilitywith the type of liturgy or other functions of the Catholic Priests program at which it was rendered.
5.7. Provide lyrics for all liturgies as required.
5.8. Attend any meetings identified by the Catholic Priest or their designee regarding music support.
5.9. Provide lyrics and ensure proper formatting as needed for all liturgies as required.
5.10. Set up all sound system requirements and ensure powered and working correctly for all liturgies or events to include rehearsals and performances.
5.11. Complete facility requests as required to reserve chapel facilities IAW local Chapel
Operating Instructions (460 SW/HC OI 52101). When completing facility requests all facility requests must be approved by the Wing Chaplain or his/her designee before assuming space has been reserved for Catholic Music activities.
5.12. Must submit invoices through the WideArea Workflow System for the period of performance being invoiced. Any issues or concerns must be addressed to the Catholic Priest or
designated representative for time extension approval.
6. Criminal History Background Check. Music Director(s) shall:
6.1 Submit completed background check applications to the Chaplain Corps background check program manager for processing. It is mandatory that all Music Directors working with children under the age of eighteen (18) undergo a background check investigation.
