Job Description |
Position: Special Education Paraprofessional Location: Oxnard CA Job Overview: The school is seeking a compassionate and dedicated fulltime Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team. The successful candidate will support the instructional and behavioral needs of students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) under the direction of certified teachers and specialists. The Special Education Paraprofessional will play a key role in helping students achieve their educational goals and develop essential life skills in a supportive and inclusive environment. Key Responsibilities: -
Instructional Support: - Assist in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with ASD.
- Provide oneonone or small group instruction to reinforce learning concepts introduced by the teacher.
- Adapt and modify instructional materials and activities to meet the unique needs of each student.

Behavioral Support: - Implement behavior management strategies and interventions as outlined in students behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
- Monitor and document student behavior providing feedback to the teacher and other team members.
- Support students in developing positive social interactions and coping skills.

Classroom Management: - Assist in maintaining a structured and organized classroom environment.
- Help manage classroom routines and transitions to ensure a smooth and productive learning experience.
- Supervise students during classroom activities recess lunch and other schoolrelated events.

Data Collection and Documentation: - Collect and record data on student progress behavior and performance as directed by the teacher.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records ensuring compliance with school policies and procedures.
- Assist in preparing reports and documentation for IEP meetings and progress reviews.

Collaboration and Communication: - Work collaboratively with teachers therapists and other support staff to provide comprehensive support to students.
- Communicate effectively with team members and parents regarding student progress and any concerns.
- Participate in team meetings training sessions and professional development opportunities.

Student Assistance: - Provide assistance with daily living skills including feeding toileting and personal hygiene as needed.
- Support students in using assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
- Foster a positive and respectful relationship with students encouraging their independence and selfconfidence.
Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with children with autism spectrum disorders or related developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of special education practices including behavior management and instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Patience empathy and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.
