As a Safety Technician at Talent Source you will play a crucial role in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment in shipyard operations. Below are the key responsibilities and requirements for this position:
Responsibilities:
- Conduct safety inspections and audits of shipyard facilities equipment and work areas to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Assist in the development implementation and enforcement of safety policies procedures and programs to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.
- Provide safety training to employees and contractors on topics such as hazard recognition fall protection confined space entry and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
- Investigate accidents incidents and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments to identify potential hazards associated with specific tasks and develop controls to mitigate risks.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations shipyard safety standards and company policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections training activities incident reports and other safetyrelated documentation.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and collaborate with management supervisors and employees to address safety concerns and promote a culture of safety.
- Stay current with industry trends best practices and regulatory changes in occupational safety and health.
- Assist in emergency response and crisis management activities including evacuation drills fire prevention and first aid response.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in occupational safety and health preferably in a shipyard or maritime environment.
- Knowledge of shipyard safety regulations including OSHA regulations NAVSEA standards and industry best practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate safety concepts and procedures to diverse audiences.
- Ability to conduct safety training sessions and presentations to groups of employees and contractors.
- Excellent problemsolving and decisionmaking skills with the ability to analyze complex safety issues and develop practical solutions.
- Certification or training in occupational safety and health such as OSHA 30hour General Industry or OSHA 500 Trainer certification preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word Excel and PowerPoint.
- Physical ability to conduct safety inspections and assessments in shipyard environments including climbing ladders walking on uneven surfaces and lifting up to 50 pounds.
