The Institute of Human Rights and Business (IHRB) is the leading international think tank on business and human rights. IHRBs mission is to shape policy advance practice and strengthen accountability in order to make respect for human rights part of everyday business.

In this role you will not only have the opportunity to be a part of a globally dispersed team of human rights leaders and entrepreneurial minds but youll also have the opportunity to help us to shape our future. The team programmatic and geographic areas of our work have grown since IHRBs inception in 2009 and with a new strategic plan IHRB is now at a point of growth. We have recently conducted an external assessment of culture processes and practices to respond to the changing needs of the organisation and an everevolving business climate and we are well underway in our mission to futureproof the way we work. This role is critical in helping us to achieve that. In addition we pride ourselves on our humancentred culture built on equal doses of trust and ambition and we require our Head of Operations to be outcomefocused and support these strengths.
The Role
- Reporting to:CEO (Dotted line to Deputy CEO and COO)
- Start date: February 2024 (interim)
- Hours: 45 days. Fulltime (5 days 37.5 hours per week) / Parttime (4 days 30 hours per week)
- Duration: 69 months
- Location: Remote/Homebased location flexible within 12 hours of GMT timezone. Candidatesmust already have permission to work in the country of their location and easy access tointernational travel.

(based on 37.5 hours per week). This post will have acontract or consultancy agreement subject to UK law. Equivalent consulting rate offered to nonUK basedapplicants PAYE contracts can be offered to UKbased applicants. - Annual leave:28 days annual leave bank holidays. Additional 8 days leave for office closure through the December holiday period
- Were fully remote: Work from anywhere based within 12 hours of the GMT time zone
Your Responsibilities
Executive Team and Operations Team Support:
- Be a liaisonbetween the team and the Executive Team regarding the organisations finance culture wellbeing project updates etc.
- Work with the Executive Team to develop and deliver progress updates for use in key organisational processes internally and externally
- Work with all leaders and managers to ensure that we are continually well resourced to deliver on our strategic goals
- Line manage and support the development of the Operations Team: the Operations Coordinator and the Governance and People Management Officer supported by the COO
Financial Planning & Budget Management:
- Collaborate with our external finance team and working closely with the COO CEO and Team Leads to support financial management processes across programmes
- Support our fundraising process including due diligence and budgeting
- Support and collaborate with our internal budget holders on programme budget management reporting to funders quarterly management accounts to ensure alignment with the organisational budget.
Operational Effectiveness:
- Identify opportunities to enhance organisational processes and implement best practices to optimise efficiency and productivity.
- Support our people and culture function to enable our team to be at their best including engagement initiatives advice on timesensitive matters guidance on recruitment good practice compliance updates to contracts and other processes
- Support with security and safety assessments and resources for travel and events planning.
- Responsible for appropriate and necessary IT security measures across the organisation
Governance &Compliance:
- Ensure our adherence to legal statutory and regulatory requirements in all operations and be responsible for risk mitigation
- Act as our internal compliance officer our key contact to receive reports of suspicious activity that might be linked to money laundering/bribery
- Act as our data protection officer monitor internal compliance inform and advice on our data protection and GDPR obligations
Experience Skills & Culture Add
Valuable Experience:
- NonProfit: Proven experience working in a senior role in a nonprofit organisation
- Financial Management: Experience of developing and running effective strategic governance and decision making processes as well as financial planning.
- People Management: Experience of managing people management functions and of leading engaging and developing a team in a remotefirst setting.
Skills wed love to see:
- Strategic: Strong strategic thinking analytical and problemsolving skills
- Collaborative: Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across teams in a remotefirst team environment across varying timezones
- Engaging Communication: Ability to convey complex information in an accessible and compelling manner including through storytelling and other creative ways of engaging people internally.
- Analytical: Good understanding and interpretation of data and helpful if youre an excel whizz too

Interview Schedule
First interviews will be held on Monday 8th January and Wednesday 10th January 2024 between 9.3011am via Zoom with IHRBs Deputy CEO and People & Culture Lead. Applicants should ensure their availability for a 45 minute slot during UKwork hours on this date.
Second interviews for the final candidate(s) being considered will be held on w/c 15th January 2024 with IHRBs COO and CEO.
