We are searching for a Metallurgist. You will play a pivotal role in driving excellence across metallurgical processes. Leveraging in-depth knowledge of metallurgy, the successful candidate will provide expert insights, perform detailed investigations, and recommend effective solutions across various internal departments. This position demands a deep understanding of metal properties, their reactions to heat, and the associated chemistry.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years in the steel or metals industry is preferred.
- Hands-on experience within an ISO 9001 system is essential.
- Prior experience in heavy manufacturing environments is an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of metal properties, especially concerning reactions to heat and associated chemistry.
- Strong acumen in Lean Manufacturing principles, underscoring a dedication to continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and database systems.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, ensuring clear, concise communication across multiple departments.
- A detail-oriented mindset complemented by exemplary time management and organizational skills. An adaptive nature, with the ability to guide and motivate others during times of change. A collaborative approach, highlighting the ability to work seamlessly across functional lines, catering to both internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties
- Safety and Compliance:
- Prioritize safety, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Uphold and reinforce company values, standards, and the Code of Business Conduct.
- Material Analysis and Process Quality:
- Investigate claims related to subpar materials and provide technical feedback.
- Work closely with the Quality Engineer, focusing on blends, batches, and melting catalysts.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality control systems for processing materials.
- Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies.
- Use Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Advanced Quality Process (AQP) tools to identify areas for improvement and drive solutions.
- Lead metallurgical workflow management and maintain the associated reporting database.
- Technical Consultation and Collaboration:
- Advise on material specifications and processes across design and manufacturing departments.
- Establish and manage internal benchmarks related to materials, processes, and verifications.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy or Material Sciences is essential. A related degree coupled with substantial experience may also be considered.
