ABOUT THE JOB
The Geller House located in Staten Island, is a short-term residential center that provides rapid intervention, assessments, treatment services, education, social and recreational activities for at-risk adolescents ages 11-16 years old who are struggling with family related issues, including; long-term abuse, neglect, substance abuse and mental illness.
PURPOSE:
The Recreational Supervisor works with youth in the residential setting, developing programs to provide appropriate recreational activities for the youth, tailored to their clinical and socialization needs. The Recreational Supervisor is an integral part of the treatment team, providing feedback to the clinical staff regarding a clients needs and abilities, while utilizing feedback for tailoring appropriate recreational programs/activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversight of all aspects of recreation programming including: facilitating psycho-educational groups with adolescents; supervising/ensuring recreation activities meet the stages of development; creating weekly recreational trips, and programming calendar; completing recreational assessment for each youth, and referring youth to community programs upon discharge; intakes and assessments; organizing special events; and acting as the LGBTQ point person in partnership with The Jewish Boards Bridging the Gap program
Assisting with training and supervising direct service professionals on strategies to engage and supervisor youth in program and recreational activities; managing volunteers, and collaborating with the volunteer department/engaging in community resources; performing shift leader responsibilities in the absence of the assigned shift leader
Completing documentation of all resident interactions, including progress notes/electronic records

JOB QUALIFICATION:
Bachelors Degree with 3 years experience working with adolescents in residential treatment. Masters Degree in related field a plus
A current, valid clean Drivers license is required for this position; ability to travel in the community with residents, utilizing agency vehicle
Experience working as a lead within a treatment model, with prior supervisory experience
