The Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center seeks a medical director for the Molecular Genetics service, which includes molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, and clinical genomics laboratories. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D./D.O. and should be ABMGG board-certified in clinical cytogenetics and genomics, or in laboratory genetics and genomics (LGG). Strong leadership skills are required.
Responsibilities will include working in close collaboration with the Manager that oversees these areas, to ensure state-of-the art laboratory services for VUMC patients and clients. The successful candidate will work closely with section medical directors in the administration, oversight, management, and research and development activities of the laboratories. Additional responsibilities will include coverage in one or more of these laboratory sections with interpretation and sign-out of karyotype, FISH, microarray, sign out of NGS for disease specific multi-gene panels and whole exome sequencing, and/or sign out of a variety of molecular assays for both adult and pediatric patients, depending on qualifications and interest. Additional responsibilities will include teaching and mentoring LGG and Molecular Genetic Pathology fellows, pathology residents, and medical students, and participation in clinical and/or translational research. Academic rank and salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
