Position Title: Automation Field Service Technician
Job Summary: Our client, a manufacturer of injection molding machinery and robotics, is seeking a Field Service Technician for our Automation/Robotics department. This person will be responsible for performing work onsite at customer locations for the purpose of installing and servicing automation cells containing various combinations of linear, SCARA, & 6-axis robots, bowl feeders, drawer systems, conveyors, machine guarding & safety systems, as well as other custom automation equipment. Provide customer training and support as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Onsite:
- Develops an organized approach to solving problems
- Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with control systems
- Troubleshoot and repair automation systems & equipment
- Conduct tests and inspections on all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software components
- Install, troubleshoot, and commission industrial automation hardware and software
- Install and prove-out safety systems. Perform all safety checks on equipment
- Install or remove optional equipment & features on the various types of robots the Company provides to its customers
- Repair/replace parts as required. Utilize reference materials including manuals, drawings, procedures, etc
- Repair/replace any component on robots or product handling equipment
- Calibrate equipment to achieve optimum performance
- Adjust process variables as required in order to produce parts of acceptable quality
- Set parameters, positioning and sequences for an entire production cell
- Perform hardware & software retrofits to existing automation systems
- Demonstrate equipment and/or complete system functionality to customers
- On-site project management as a supporting role to the Automation Project Manager
Customer-Centric:
- Develop and maintain superior customer relations, coordinate and serve as a liaison with internal resources to ensure effective customer service as well as provide telephone support to other service technicians
- Provide technical support to internal & external customers
- Provide telephone support to customer staff or customer operators
- Manage resolution of customer issues including order and installation of replacement parts as necessary
- Assist/advise customers via telephone or on-site when technical difficulties arise
- Communicate with Central Service/Manufacturing/Parts Center to obtain answers to problems encountered in the field
- Provide follow-up support to customers post resolution of technical issues
- Train customer personnel (operators, technicians, engineers) on the maintenance and safe operation of equipment
Internal Company Process:
- Order replacement parts
- Arrange for the return of parts as necessary
- Generate written field service reports on a regular basis
- Provide guidance and/or on-the-job training to junior technicians
- Perform other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by a supervisor
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS - Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), Electromechanical Engineering Technology (EMET) or equivalent training & experience
- Minimum of 5 10 years' related experience in robotics or automation is required
- Preferred Robot experience: KUKA, Staubli, ABB, Fanuc
- Preferred Control System experience: Siemens

- Use internal resources efficiently to resolve customer issues expeditiously and accurately
- Competent with automation and external assemblies
- Knowledge of Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), control system processors, industrial instrumentation, control system analog & digital I/O, control system networks (EtherCAT, Ethernet, Profinet)
- Ability to perform graphical & ladder logic programming
- Perform work on multiple projects and tasks
Travel Requirements: - Travel approximately 80% of the time to customer site
- Must be willing to travel as needed
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must possess a valid passport
- Ability to travel internationally to headquarters in Europe
