An Interior Designer oversees the design and decorative process for working areas from start to finish. Their main duties include sketching various design plans, determining costs for different projects, and sourcing materials and products for the designs.
Interior Designer duties and responsibilities
- Visiting job sites to analyze space availability, design needs, and the purpose of the space
- Determine cost of completion and project requirements in the budgeting phase
- Set a timeline for the completion of an interior design project
- Create 'mood boards' to sample your design vision.
- Attending meetings to understand the design needs and client preferences regarding interior styles and colors
- Creating initial design sketches, color themes, and ideas based on requirements and space availability
- Hiring contractors and vendors to implement design ideas, such as Carpenters, Painters, Plumbers, Electricians, and Artists
- Overseeing the buying process of all raw materials and items required to complete the project
- Keeping everyone involved in the project appraised of its progress
- Ensuring project completion within the allocated budget and timeline
Interior Designer Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in interior design or related field.
- Portfolio of design work.
- Project management experience.
- Experience with computational design.
- Highly creative, imaginative, and artistic.
- Excellent communication skills, especially in regard to communicating an artistic vision.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Illustrator, SketchUp, or similar design software.
