Job Description
A tailor creates alters and repairs garments for customers. They use their
knowledge of clothing design and construction to meet customers needs
and preferences.
Responsibilities
Take measurements: Use a tape measure to take customers
measurements and record them
Design: Create designs by hand or using software or adapt existing
patterns
Cut and sew: Cut fabric pieces mark them and sew them together by
hand or machine
Fit: Fit garments to customers on a dummy model or in person and make
adjustments
Press: Use an iron or machine to press seams pleats and other areas of
the garment
Repair: Reattach buttons stitch tears and make other repairs
Prepare: Prepare garments for pickup by removing chalk marks and
ironing out creases
