Roles and responsibilities

• Curriculum Planning and Instruction

  • Lesson Planning: Developing comprehensive and engaging lesson plans that cover core biological concepts, ensuring that students build a solid understanding of biology.
  • Teaching Key Biological Topics: Instruction on subjects like cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, human biology, plant biology, animal behavior, and environmental science.
  • Integrating Practical Applications: Teaching students how biological principles apply in real-world situations, such as health, medicine, agriculture, and environmental conservation.

• Laboratory Instruction

  • Lab Activities: Planning and conducting laboratory experiments where students can apply the biological concepts they learn in class. These activities help students develop practical skills in scientific inquiry.
  • Experiment Design and Supervision: Setting up experiments and demonstrations, explaining procedures, ensuring that students understand the purpose and safety protocols, and guiding them through the experimental process.
  • Safety in Labs: Ensuring that all students follow safety protocols when handling biological materials, chemicals, and equipment in the lab.

• Assessment and Evaluation

  • Grading and Feedback: Evaluating students' understanding through tests, quizzes, assignments, and lab reports. Providing feedback that helps students improve their scientific knowledge and skills.
  • Progress Tracking: Continuously monitoring the progress of students and identifying areas where additional support may be needed. Adjusting teaching methods to meet the needs of all students.
  • Formative and Summative Assessments: Using a mix of assessments (such as ongoing quizzes and final exams) to measure both conceptual understanding and practical skills.

• Classroom Management

  • Creating an Effective Learning Environment: Establishing a classroom atmosphere that encourages learning, exploration, and scientific inquiry. Promoting student participation and collaboration in both discussions and experiments.
  • Engaging Students: Using diverse teaching methods such as visual aids, videos, interactive activities, and group discussions to engage students and make biology exciting and accessible.
  • Promoting Critical Thinking: Encouraging students to question, analyze, and explore biological phenomena through problem-solving and inquiry-based learning.

• Professional Development

  • Staying Current: Keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in biological research, technology, and teaching strategies. Attending workshops, conferences, and professional development courses.
  • Collaboration with Colleagues: Sharing resources and best practices with other science teachers, as well as working together on cross-disciplinary projects and curriculum development.

Desired candidate profile

A passion for providing outstanding teaching and driven to provide education at an exceptional level. Teachers enjoy an outstanding school environment in which to deliver a dynamic and creative curriculum to motivated students.
Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
Teachers are expected to have a current license/certification in their home country with a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience.
Teaching certificate.
MYP/DP training is preferred
MYP/DP experience is preferred.
Experience in teaching TOK is desired.
Aspiration to work in a world class school with real prospects for enhancing their career.
Strong Knowledge of Biology

A deep understanding of various biological concepts and systems, such as genetics, ecology, evolution, cell biology, and anatomy and physiology. A biology teacher should be able to present these concepts in a clear, engaging, and accessible way for students.
Laboratory Skills

Proficiency in setting up and conducting biological experiments, as well as ensuring that students can work safely and effectively in the lab. A teacher must be skilled in guiding students through lab procedures and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
Effective Communication

The ability to clearly explain complex biological concepts and terms to students. This includes speaking, writing, and using visual aids to enhance understanding.
Active listening skills to address students' questions and concerns and to help them deepen their understanding.
