Job Description
Our client is an investment firm based in the UK. They help family offices and HNW individuals with matters relating to asset management.
They currently have an opening for an equity research analyst to work remotely from Lagos Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities
Financial calendar monitoring (example tasks)
- Map out the next two expected reporting events for XYZ company
- Each Thursday/Friday make a list of events upcoming for our watch list of companies the following week and we will discuss whether there is anything to prepare.
Company verbal/Qualitative analysis (example tasks)
- Review recent LinkedIn posts of staff members of XYZ company and report back on any posts/content that could give hints regarding the future prospects of the company
- Review other social media (YouTube etc) for appearances of company staff members on interview shows podcasts etc for similar reasons as above.
- Make a list of all major investor concerns regarding a stock.
For example in Nov 2022 the concerns about Meta were
1) Competition from TikTok
3) Concerns about unproductive Metaverse investment
- Read company earnings/results transcripts and search for any language that suggests that the company may be suffering from problems that are temporary or where a solution/improvement is visible. (We are looking for hints of positive change on the horizon)
Company financial analysis/quantitative analysis/accounting (example tasks)
- Reconcile between company financial accounting data on services like CapIQ TIKR Bloomberg etc with the official company accounts to make sure there are no mismatches or misunderstandings.
- Monitor stock buyback data for companies on a watch list (how much is the buyback as a % of daily traded volume and as a % of market cap and of freefloating market cap)
- Unit economics analysis for growth stocks for growth stocks
- Based on study of the company documents and the earnings transcripts etc make a detailed estimate of the company s next years profits giving commentary in your spreadsheet regarding your logic behind each aspect of the forecast model
Portfolio monitoring (example tasks)
- Update a spreadsheet of stocks held based on voice notes from me for example we have a spreadsheet that says Client A holds 100000 shares of XYZ stock. I send voice note saying Client A sold 10000 shares of XYZ and you update the record of Client A s holding to 90000 shares.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
A bachelor s degree in business Economics Marketing Statistics Social Sciences or a related field. A master s degree or relevant certifications (e.g. in data analysis market research) is a plus.
Experience:
- A year or 2 years experience in a research or analytical role preferably with an investment or asset management firm.
- Proven experience in data collection analysis and report writing.
- Familiarity with statistical software and research tools (e.g. SPSS SAS R Excel Tableau).
Skills:
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to interpret complex data and provide clear actionable insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings to senior leadership or clients.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong problemsolving skills and the ability to think strategically.
- Understanding of market research methodologies and techniques.
