The role involves setting up and operating machines and assembling parts to create or repair tools jigs and fixtures. It requires knowledge of tool design metalworking and assembly procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Review specifications (blueprints sketches) and plan work steps.
- Set up and operate machine tools (lathe milling machine grinder) to make parts according to specifications.
- Secure parts using tools like vises and angle plates for machining.
- Assemble parts into mechanisms using hand tools.
- Measure and check parts for accuracy with measuring instruments like micrometers.
- Inspect and modify tools as required.
- Create tool specifications and drawings.
- Monitor part quality using control charts and perform firstpiece inspections.
- Troubleshoot machine or material issues.
- Set up tooling for various production equipment.
- Maintain an organized work station and follow safety procedures.
- Report issues to supervisors and follow all company policies.
Key Competencies:
- Proficient in reading writing and understanding instructions in English.
- Skilled in measuring parts with tools and gauges.
- Basic math skills including geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to read blueprints and understand tolerances.
- Strong problemsolving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Capable of working independently and following instructions.
Minimum Educational & Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years of experience with manual tool room equipment.
- Inhouse training on assigned machinery (CNC and wireforming machines are a plus).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to use hands stand and walk the entire workday.
- Can lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Comfortable working in a noisy dusty and hazardous shop environment.
