Senior Technical Specialist (Infrastructure) Independent Contractor
Location: Dublin Ireland (Hybrid: Remote with occasional onsite requirements)
Contract Type: Independent Contractor
Day Rate: Dependent on Experience (DOE)
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Specialist (Infrastructure) as an independent contractor. This role will be essential in supporting maintaining and optimising the organisations ICT infrastructure ensuring high standards of security resilience and performance across a complex enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Support & Management
- Oversee and enhance existing ICT infrastructure to align with evolving business needs including servers SANs and virtual environments (VMware SRM Veeam).
- Ensure robust backup replication and recovery processes utilising the latest version of Veeam and VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM).
- Collaborate closely with thirdparty providers and contractors directing activities as needed to maintain seamless infrastructure performance.
Project Coordination & Change Management
- Manage and execute various infrastructure projects from planning through implementation in conjunction with daily operational support.
- Operate within a structured change management environment attending CAB meetings and ensuring adherence to ISO 27001 standards.
- Provide technical guidance and consulting on infrastructure improvements with a focus on continual enhancement of data centre processes.
System Monitoring & Disaster Recovery
- Monitor and manage capacity and performance across the infrastructure ensuring proactive maintenance and risk management.
- Lead disaster recovery efforts including routine testing to ensure business continuity.
- Implement bestpractice methodologies for capacity planning incident management and infrastructure monitoring.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external vendors aligning infrastructure strategy with broader organisational goals.
- Communicate effectively with ICT management and stakeholders providing updates on infrastructure improvements and changes as necessary.
- Support helpdesk operations through senior consultancy and troubleshooting for complex issues.
Candidate Requirements
Technical Skills
- Infrastructure Management: Proficient in enterprise infrastructure hardware (HPE Lenovo IBM servers SANs) and virtualisation technologies (VMware vSphere).
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Expertise with Veeam (v12) for backup management and recovery operations.
- Platform Experience: Familiar with data centre management software including Cisco App Dynamics and logical monitoring tools.
- Security & Compliance: Knowledgeable in ISO 27001 change control processes and CIS standards for system hardening.
Experience
- A minimum of 1012 years in infrastructure management ideally within complex multivendor environments.
- Demonstrated experience in overseeing large data centre environments with a focus on high availability and disaster recovery.
- Familiarity with privileged access management (PAM360) and immutable cloud storage solutions.
Education & Certifications
- Relevant certifications in infrastructure management such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP) and certifications in backup and recovery solutions are highly valued.
- Formal education in Information Technology or a related field.
Soft Skills
- Strong problemsolving skills with a structured analytical approach to troubleshooting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
- Flexible to work outside standard hours and participate in oncall rotation as required.
