Overview
The Cath Lab Technologist plays a crucial role in the healthcare setting specifically in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. This professional is responsible for operating and maintaining specialized medical equipment used for diagnosing and treating heart conditions. The cath lab technologist supports physicians and nurses during procedures ensuring the safety and comfort of patients. This role demands a high level of technical skill and attention to detail as well as a dedication to upholding the highest standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain cardiac catheterization equipment
- Assist cardiologists with diagnostic imaging procedures
- Monitor patients during cath lab procedures
- Prepare and position patients for angiography and other cardiac interventions
- Collaborate with healthcare team to ensure patient safety and comfort
- Respond to emergency situations with efficiency and composure
- Maintain accurate patient records and procedure documentation
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the cath lab and equipment
- Participate in ongoing training and skill development
- Adhere to radiation safety and infection control protocols
- Provide compassionate care and support to patients and their families
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform routine maintenance
- Assist in the implementation and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives
- Adhere to regulatory and compliance standards
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary environment
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in cardiovascular technology or related field
- Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
- Previous experience in a cardiac cath lab or interventional cardiology setting
- Proficiency in medical terminology and cardiac medications
- Comprehensive understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology
- Ability to interpret EKGs and hemodynamic data
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fastpaced environment
- Knowledge of and adherence to radiation safety protocols
- Capability to remain calm and focused during emergency situations
- Attention to detail and strong problemsolving abilities
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning
- Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Strong ethical and moral compass in line with healthcare principles
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
