The responsibilities of the Technical Manager include:
- Direct and coordinate the activities of a site technical office program workloads and provides technical and administrative guidance to site staff to ensure aims and objectives are effectively and economically achieved;
- Review manage and ensure timely receipt of design deliverables from consultants;
- Manage the external design engineering team or subcontractors to ensure the project implementation in accordance with plans by controlling the engineering progress and costs;
- Provide direction and support to operational/technical staff and subcontract partners;
- Conduct constructability reviews means and methods and temporary works;
- Provide technical support to Projects under construction for design definition of execution processes and for planning and scheduling;
- Ensure that all members of the site engineering team are familiar with the requirements of the Project Quality Plan;
- Ensure the project deliverables are issued in accordance with the specified design and quality standards;
- Support the local procurement process by coordinating the issue of the material requisitions and the bid technical evaluations;
- Ensure technical coordination with client;
- Initiate and maintain site Project files and coordinate project document control activity;
- Preparing technical and material submittals;
- Reviewing subcontractors invoices;
- Coordinate office assistance during construction activities;
- Assist the Project Manager in the preparation of change orders;
- Assist the Project Manager in the preparation of project reporting to the client;
- Assist the Project Manager in performing the Contract review;
- Report on the project status and highlight areas of concern;
- Implement the system to control total and progress project quantities;
- Coordinate quantities and reporting with other project disciplines including cost control and scheduling;
- Coordinate the technical activities of the survey team.
Requirements
- Bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering preferred;
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation;
- Minimum 5 to 10 years of experience in design management experience in large heavy civil projects is considered an asset;
- Working knowledge of contract language and legal requirements of contracts;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent technical organizational managerial and planning skills;
- Excellent command of Microsoft Office Suite and applicable project management software;
- Bilingual (an asset) but proficiency in English language with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is required.
