Overview
A barista plays a crucial role in the success of a caf or coffee shop as they are responsible for preparing and serving highquality coffee and beverages while providing excellent customer service. This position is vital in creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience for customers and requires a combination of technical skills attention to detail and strong interpersonal abilities.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a variety of coffee and beverages according to established recipes and quality standards
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting taking orders and addressing customer inquiries
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the caf including the coffee bar and seating areas
- Operate coffeemaking equipment such as espresso machines grinders and brewers
- Handle cash process payments and maintain accurate transaction records
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and timely service during peak hours
- Uphold food safety and hygiene regulations in the handling and storage of food and beverages
- Stock and replenish caf items including coffee beans syrups and other supplies
- Assist in creating and maintaining a welcoming and inviting atmosphere for customers
- Handle customer complaints or concerns with professionalism and problemsolving skills
- Participate in training to expand knowledge of coffee industry trends and new products
- Contribute to the overall success of the caf by supporting promotional events and initiatives
- Adhere to company policies procedures and guidelines at all times
- Contribute to a positive team environment and promote teamwork among colleagues
- Perform opening and closing duties as required including cleaning and restocking
Required qualifications
- Prior experience in a similar role in the food and beverage industry
- Knowledge of various coffee and espresso drinks brewing methods and coffee roasts
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers and team members
- Ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Demonstrated customer service skills and a friendly approachable demeanor
- Experience with cash handling and POS systems
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
- Ability to work well in a team and collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays
- Strong problemsolving abilities and a proactive approach to resolving issues
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move moderately heavy items
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in coffee preparation is a plus
- Passion for coffee and a willingness to learn and expand knowledge in the field
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
