Job Description
- Monitoring the patient’s vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate
- Maintaining equipment used in medical gas applications, such as oxygen delivery systems, nitrous oxide delivery systems, inhalation anesthetics delivery systems, carbon dioxide delivery systems, and respiratory therapy equipment
- Preparing solutions that are used to infuse medications into patients by administering them directly into a vein or artery using an IV pump
- Maintaining inventory of medical gases and supplies in a hospital setting
- Recording information about the patient’s condition, treatments provided, and any complications that may have occurred during treatment
- Establishing lines for intravenous (IV) infusions by inserting needles into veins or arteries
- Following safety protocols for handling hazardous materials such as oxygen and nitrous oxide
- Operating an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine to monitor electrical activity of the heart over time
- Educating patients about their condition and treatment options
