Overview
The Designer Quantity Surveyor plays a crucial role in the construction industry where they are responsible for accurately estimating and managing the costs associated with a construction project. Key responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze cost estimates for construction projects
- Collaborate with design teams to ensure costeffective solutions
- Conduct site visits and surveys to gather data for estimates
- Review and negotiate contracts with vendors and subcontractors
- Monitor project budgets and track expenses
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and bills of quantities
- Assess and value change orders and variations
- Utilize software tools for accurate quantity surveying
- Perform risk analysis and cost control throughout the project lifecycle
- Ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
- Contribute to value engineering and costsaving strategies
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide financial insights
- Participate in project meetings and provide costrelated updates
- Resolve disputes related to project costs and claims
- Maintain accurate documentation and records of all costrelated activities
Required qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying Construction Management or related field
- Professional certification from a recognized institution (e.g. RICS AIQS CIOB)
- Proven experience in quantity surveying and cost estimation in construction projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD BIM or other relevant design and modeling software
- Strong knowledge of construction methods materials and building regulations
- Excellent numerical and analytical abilities
- Ability to interpret and understand technical drawings and specifications
- Experience in project management and scheduling
- Advanced skills in using spreadsheets and cost estimating software
- Effective communication and negotiation skills
